Everything has paperwork, even simple biological functions…….. I’ve been neglecting my office duties and now I have to scramble eggs today.
I have ugly progress on Ruby…. wiring, trying to save old parts and hacking away at crummy insulation is no fun and not much to see but oweing I need to show you progress on Ruby…. our soup to nuts 1973 #41 Hum V diesel monster project…….. yes, we even have stuff like that…… and you thought I gave it all up for hot rods and ambulances…. nope…. even with all our new opportunities my passion is the GMC and for folks who truly appreciate what these unique machines can be, we will be here for you.
I must tell you though “one can not live on candy bars alone”, though I see the GMC as my desert still, to have a balanced business you must have other things that help pay the bills and this is what The Co-op is doing to help keep all of the assets we have assembled focused on the things we do best.
Over the years, other GMC specialty shops have come and gone…. some thought they could fool everyone and make a killing….. It’s good the community was smarter than that. Still other GMC specialty shop came to this conclusion and went into the rest of the RV world and found it was much more profitable to try and seal leaks and replace stuff that fall off most of the sales driven (not design driven) ocean of crumbling investments in those rolling toasters out there. Some tried to even sell those things…… that didn’t work because u have to be HUGE to sell new RV’s today and transitioning from messing with GMC’s to THAT… well, they are NOT the same. I feel vintage cars, critical use emergency vehicles are things that fit well with our talents plus…. and I must confess…. create much more profit which is why all those past dealers had to leave. Messing with these old war horses is NOT a hi profit business…… Oh now we’re gonna hear Jim whine a little….. where’s the cheese? No, I’m trying to articulate where The Co-op is expanding to… paying for a facility like this is a challenge for any business much less some obscure limited production big thing…….. Hey, it’s true, it’s not uncommon for a hot rod to cost bigger bucks than any of us consider with our GMC to get into the shape the customer wants.
Thing about designing a late motor with PS,PB, AC, auto, independent suspension, full air ride, tilt front, black gator bed cover, fat tires and a slick black paint job……… if you really wanted that, what would YOU pay? See There Cedric, there’s Ruby right behind the 50 Ford pick-up…….. Behind that is the 57 Belair stretch limo
Does it matter, the owner wants it! There’s not enough time to list what’s been done to THIS thing! You could have 4 nice GMC’s for the price of what this anumule cost! Oh, and it’s not done!!!!!!!
And if you ever find yourself resting on one of these know your body may scramble your organs in a 6g force but the stretcher will withstand 20g to keep your body on the matt! .
OK, I’ve screwed up again spending too much time here…. remember I have an appraisal to do for a drowned coach from the hurricanes…… yep, it takes motorhomes too!
See ya tomorrow……
Jim,
I read his blog every day and sometimes re-read favorites on the weekend. I have learned a lot from your rambling, educational and at times defensive approach to teaching all who listen about the best motorcoach out there. I don’t own a GMC coach, yet, however I read what you post and learn what to look for and what to expect when I do buy. I see there are difficulties with social media and truthful information that helps folks, all I can say to that is it’s great you present your side and let the reader decide what step to take next. I will keep reading and hopefully someday drop in for a visit and friendly chat, I love the fact you offer “dreamers” the chance to try on a coach to get the feel before laying down the coin. Keep up the good work Jim, honest hit’em between the eyes factual folks like you are rare these days, and greatly appreciated by guys like me.
