The Co-op, A field trip for torque converters

Sorry not posting yesterday but I bugged out early headed over to the coast to pick up some very special parts and I want to show you one place in particular…….. it’s off to the Torque Converter Mecca … well actually the center of the transmission world.  I know that’s a tall introduction but hey watch this….

We’ve had our torque converter design custom built at this place for years and I needed to drop off some cores and pick up some fresh parts… I came in through the output door, greeting me was a bin of aluminum filings from the day before…. guys LLOK at the amount of drop!  coverter-guys-21  WOW, next are a “few” bell housing castings  (coming in)coverter-guys-18 and a box of them going out  coverter-guys-19  Only American V8… no diesel…. only cool, fest stuff!  You wonder where all the talent hid out when all the jobs went to China?  They came here!!  coverter-guys-2  To this shop that’s bigger than my puny 20,000sf  coverter-guys-15  well THIS is what I want my place to look like…. just set up so well, clean, professional people doing a perfect job every time…. torque converters……  coverter-guys-7  They MAKE these parts  coverter-guys-9  and these (oh, BTW, THOSE were the “braised fins” we talk about in the converter build… they MAKE and assemble full transmission from raw castings!!!!  coverter-guys-14  This is Father and Son… can ya tell?  That man right there has forgotten more about transmission design and manufacture than you or I will EVER know!  coverter-guys-1 and his son has caught everything Dad spilled out!  They nufacture valve bodies from a block of aluminum!  Here is their valve body checkout stand  coverter-guys-12  The transmission is mounted upside down so they can swap out the valve bodies quickly on checkout.  There’s a window in the pan coverter-guys-11  Well, you’ve got the idea… this is the East Coast transmission heaven for American muscle… leaving the place, here’s a completed custom… hade made transmission  coverter-guys-20I also stopped by our chrome folks over there picking up a PERFECT set of bumpers!  Better be for $1500 a front or rear pair!  And it is… I’ll show ya tomorrow….

Back at the shop I found IT going together  morin-powder-coating-21  One assembled bogy with the back section of the quad bag system powder coated Candy blue sapphire…. won’t see that most anywhere!!!  With the rest of it… a Manny 1 ton and reaction arm system all powder coated  morin-powder-coating-23  Holy Frolli!!!  This will be a one off for sure!  The mechanical guys are on it so pretty soom we’ll start on the body lift…….. stay tuned….

My new production manager is changing the entire floorplan of the shop… crap, I thought we were finished with all that!  He’s doing an awesome job with the work flow.. setting the shop up more effectively …. kinda like our tranny guys…. will do nothing but help.

Oh, what happened on Bill’s first look?  You’ll love this one… he’s coming NEXT Wednesday!   Hey, was a good dry run….  the weekend is here . Gives me a little more time to finish a few things up.

OK, lets get this Friday in the bag…. see ya tomorrow… .
