………. and our T-shirts for 2019 are here.
AND it begins. I haven’t said much lately about progress trying to do something with the 450,000 pounds of chrome plated steel molds used to make the exterior SMC plastic parts of 1 coach. From a generous offer to save these molds, WMC (Wheat Motor Company) made it possible to carry on possible development of new use for the iconic shape of our coach.
Through supports we have been able to secure these molds and late yesterday evening we picked up the 3 smallest molds. Why the smallest? With the mold for the nose weighing in at 90,000 pounds, these could be moved on a trailer with a smaller crane.
Here is half of the mold for our lower grill valenceCan you see it? On the rusty side still it can be cleaned up for the shape. The 2 pieces for the door threshold was stored and rusted together. Oh you know Phillip with torches…..he gotum apart!and then the residual oil from the heater tubes found the torch……hey, who’s got the marshmallows?he was fine……be sure he’s on your side! A tiny mold for a small body part. In the dawn light just now you can get a better look at this restoration work. The heaviest tools we have can only pick up these smallest moldsThe bigger mold is too much for us to move here, we’ll have to rent a crane or big fork lift to move it! The bigger molds were stored apart, this one was together and will be a bear to seperateWhat mold is it? The plate says“Roof Rear”…..like opening a time capsule I’ll let you know what we find.
So all of this work is being funded by some of you who are supporting this good effort. We don’t want to loose the molds to time and yes, today with new compounds and processes we may be able to make parts WITHOUT a 100ton oil heated mold press! How can this happen? Help us, send a $50 donation to us….along with our gratitude and the knowledge you are helping the community stay viable we will send you you pick of the new for 2019 our Co-op work shirt collection. Yes, go with the traditional dark grey (shows less dirt) or be seen with our battery powered (not really) safety shirt. We have our new logo over the pocket(every shirt needs a pocket!)Hey so show your colors and your support for what we do and the community……”The Dream’s Alive”. And if you can offer more support….please do……..we need itToday is going to be a good, good day……stay tuned and we’ll see ya tomorrow……..”We do mold”
