GMC Motorhome, So you wanna get one of these…

So I’ve been trying to focus a mornings plunking on you guys looking to pick up one of these objects of frustration.  On Facebook, every day on the phone and even right outside bunking in a coach going to pick up his own today… I run into folks trying to do their best to pick up that perfect GMC… for them.  Guys you KNOW I never want to be looked at as a vehicle salesman…. “car salesman”.  In fact I hate doint it.. going through all the girations and scratching the ground like chickens working a “deal” on a new car.  Why the hell do I have to pound on someone to get a “deal”?  What, is the whole world out for themselves?  .. you damn right and car salesmen have to find a way to make a living on owning low and selling high…. GOG!!! I hate that!

There’s a legitimate income derived from helping people!

This was the mission statement of the business plan I actually put together when I started Cooperative Motor Works, inc .  It was a communistic idea that I had assets to get things done and other people had things they needed to get done…. As a facilitator I could get those folks together.  Pretty idealistic and impossible to have in a capitalistic society as my CPA said … but I can think that way and that’s what the Co-op is.

Enough of that …. buying a GMC…… so part of it is getting into the culture and bond with the machine.  That does not mean you have to join one of 21 GMC specific clubs in the US… maybe so and I’m in a couple of them but that’s not the end in itself, go to a rally… whatever but don’t buy a GMC just for that… you have to have your own need for one and don’t do it just cause you always wanted one…. you, me, your dog, everyone and everything has to have a purpose to carry on…….. if you have no use for one other than you have one please don’t subject yourself to that kind of hell!  They are just too much trouble…. they’re like being responsible for a toddler.  What in the heck did the creature do now and how do I fix it?  Dude, it’s a 40 year old machine… every item and utility and feature in a house… except grass… there’s a sewer system, an AC power generating plant and then EVERY system in a truck all squeezed into a petrochemical cannoli being hurled down the road at 8.1 richter scale earthquake vibration all day… Oh and it’s 40 YEARS OLD…. I mean WHAT could go wrong and how the hell do I fix it!!!!!!

Do you really feel you wanna get involved in THAT?  Horror stories aboud and will get worse as these machine get older and expectations on how well ancient parts will continue to perform….it’s all just not realistic!

So now that I’ve rightly so scared the crap out of you … lemme do a daily pose and show you why you SHOULD jump into the deep end of this pool.  It’s not all bad and the bad can easily turned into a future asset to your coach!  THIS is what you should also understand….. DO NOT rely on the past performance or cosmetics of an original condition “Survivor”….. and here’s what happens when you buy a GMC and make it your own and ring it back to a reliable condition.  Wether you buy one you “hope” will be what you want or make one what you want yourself…. the cost of doing that in materials and labor is about the same… compared to anything else u could do……  rear this…

Good morning guys, this is the part of this mornings plunking you came here for…. the fun and games we are playing here.  First lemme show you something I’m proud of…. mega props to Dean W. in Scottsdale Az.   Aer more than a year, I finally have set up my Hot Wheels collection.  Dd you know there are something like 64 different GMC Got Wheel collectibles?  I have @ 1/ of them Hot Wheel shop display 1  the collection includes a Jones Soda collector set, A “Ben 10” “rustbucket” chemical labritory and a Hess training van … ina box!Hot Wheel shop display 2  Completely silly but you new guys gotta understand, these things get under your skin!  You should see some of the literature collection folks have…Shhh, I have an original outside thermometer … a rare option!  Remember, I also collect all of that crap too! 3.31.17 morning 6  (not for sale)…. Hey, this too is a part of it.

Beyond the foolish, I tell ya what, stirin the ants with a stick works… lookatmall attacking “Rock the Alps”  3.31.17 morning 4.  Jared got the new Ragusa screen door lookin sweet 3.31.17 morning 5 Got both clicks on the door and the screen door hugs the entry door when opening…. I tell ya, if you want a screen door call Ragusa… it fits well but more than that the mosquitos won’t carry ya off!.

Coming in this morning here is where Rock the Alps is  3.31.17 morning 2 After the final glaze today we’ll put the new grill and headlight bezrls in, new style wiper arms and the face of this puppy will be done.  Good thing cause Andy & family are scheduled to fly in from Switzerland this coming Wednesday!  Yep, we also have Bill D. and his wife coming down to pick up their baby “Fandango”!  Next week will be a busy one!

The timing chain and new harmonic balancer are in on this full mechanicals project.  You know… the one with the understide foamed in!  I was out there yesterday chipping foam…. hey we’re getting there… maybe soon we can drop the fuel tanks when we get to them!  3.31.17 morning 1  3.31.17 morning 3  See guys… these are things being done to coaches to bring them up to where they need to be.  A low miles engine with good compression gets a new double roller timing chain cause he had over 70,000 miles on the motor…… Digging out the foam the PO put in wasn’t the best idea but hey, we can fix it.  Yes, there is labor involved but that’s OK too… when it’s all done the underside and the fuel tanks with the holding tanks will be updated and ready to go…….. Every coach WILL have things that must be attended too.  I don’t care how hard and how long you look…. any coach you look at will need something….. maybe more, maybe less but understand all that is NOT where the big money will be spent.  Get one… make it run and make it comfortable and pretty for yourself…… that’s the goal and it all rolls into your investment in your fun.  Has less to do with it’s “vale” in dollars and more about it’s value to you…. using it and having fun with it.  Don’t quibble and vasillate over this and that.  There will be more money than the cash price in getting a GMC Motorhome on the road.  Here is a totally true statement… I don’t care… you will find this true… if you spend less than $10,000 for a coach THAT will be the smaller check to get it on the road, reliable and fun for your needs!  It’s just true so stop quibbling on the “deal” and make sure it’s one that can fit your needs.  They all will end up costing @ the same.

My rule of thumb… first the $10K rule then if you have a “survivor” in mechanically sound condition and as good as the rest of the coach can be without heavy work… if you have less than $25,000 in the project you are doing pretty good…. When the coach is again mechanicall on the top, cosmetically (pretty) to you and you have your own perfect bed of nails inside… brother is you have less than $50K in it you should be a happy man.  If you worry about how much you have into the coach you just can’t have any fun with it and when it needs something don’t beat yourself up … you should expect to spend $2000 each year to maintain this beast!  Some years nothing then the motor blows.  Get it fixed and keep having fun because hey… isn’t that the reason you bought it!  DO NOT try and find the perfect coach that needs nothing… lemme give you a hint……. there ain’t no such hey bailer out there!  You have to bring it to the road yourself… you need to trust but verify everything…. it’s too old to have any original integrity.  DO NOT LOOK FOR A PERFECT ONE… and stop basing your decision on price…. look at the beast…. know what you’re looking for or get help and understand there will be more money put in after the purchase….. please don’t stress and confuse yourself on this.  Learn as much as you can, rely on people and know the sell price is the Eticket ride to spend more.  I’m kinda done with helping folks decide between a $15,000 and an $18,000 coach.  That price has less to do with what the drive away investment will be.  Don’t micromanage the investment and for God’s sakes set a budget on what you can spend… not on what it will take to make it run!  Figure 50% more than the cash price and feel good when it’s less.

Go to our Patreon.com site “Motorhome Rehab Ranch” and watch videos on this.  Come on…. you are NOT choosing from a line of 2010 Toyotas and everyone involved is NOT your enemy!

OK, so get into the culture, understand, get your eyes open and do not be an island to yourself.  Enjoy this, yes it will cost money but doesn’t anything else worth doing?.

OK, the day is on and I need to go….  It’s Friday, this weekend I get the extreme pleasure of driving Fandango…… last chance before he goes to his new family… what fun….. See ya later……
