GMC Motorhome, More FiTech Fuel injection

I’ve always used the “funny” explanation….. we have to work on everything from carbs to toilets…… well, before we talk a little more about this new era fuel injection we’re going to try…. let me also show you about the composting toilet we hope to install today  compost tlet 2

Costs run @ $800-1000 plus installation which is more plugging things off than cutting things in.  compost tlet 1

Is it going to be like pooin in space for our future?  Read the manual last night… it actually says “Do not use Nutrigrow” in place of the potting mix they require!  Hey, WHAT… are we growing?  Hey, I don’t know but these things are big in Europe! Stay tuned???

Got the tires for Rock the Alps mounted and trued yesterday.  I don’t trust anyone to run our truing machine… man you can make a mess of a tire if you’re not careful! Andy tru 3 .  After the truing…. making the tire actually round and grvity balanced…. we polished up the faces and added something I’ve never done before… behold.. red line motorhome tires  Andy finals 33

Yeah man.. looks sharp on the coach!  Andy finals 31

Nothin but cool!  With the awning now on and these red line tires ready, we should start doing finals and driving tests on Rock the Alps today…. stay tuned….

OK, on the fuel injection you must understand that it took me a long time to consider again this new technology for our coaches.  The past system I simply felt put the non tech based drive in harms way.  Hands down, FI is a more effective fuel delivery system if we could have it interface better to our vintage drive trains.

Well they now tell me here it is:  FiTech 16  OUCH, check out that bold statement on the top of the box!  Hey, let ME be the one that makes that statement!  Oh and just like the last HP printer we picked up….. a “cheat sheet” fast start up card!  FiTech 17  This is GOING to be interesting!

We’ve pulled the original cast iron intake to have it cleaned then checked for cracks using a magnaflux process.  The valley of JayGee was sporting an original tin “turkey tray” intake gasket  FiTech 14 Pretty clean but you can see the ravages of the exhaust crossover heat.  Some cookies too.  That has to stop especially if we’re going to plop a cpu that’s inside this new FiTech fi system!

Here is the intake coming out of the wash tank  FiTech 11  Don’t sand blast or even shot bead the intake, if any of that media gets lodged inside the intake…… bummer dude!  Next is the checking of cracks using a magnaflux process.  Real simple… you have an big ole electromagnet…. sprinkle metal filings dyed yellow which will gather on a crack  FiTech 13  and the only crack found was the one we know most intakes have… between the large secondary ports FiTech 12OK, so we know what to do….. block-r-off and the installation of the new FiTech fuel injection system will begin as soon as we get this refinished intake installed…. stay tuned….

OK, it’s just after 8am, the guys have shown up early… we have a new owner hanging around working with us on his coach, I’ll introduce him tomorrow….. thanks for stopping by, have a great day…. we will!.
