GMC Motorhome, lets talk windows

Once again I come to u on the small screen, the lap top not feeling well after some pre-scheduled update…. does that mean I was doomed from the beginning…. the computer gods saying, “that’s enough … let’s make them buy some new stuff and climb another learning curve carrying that equipment on his back!”  Rats, I wonder if that’s their marketing plan…… things that make ya go hmm?mmm……. now the ○○||>[♧♤■¤¤》¡♡ thing is off line!  Ok, i’m gonna need a bandaid for my plunking finger!  Hiho, Hiho it’s off to work we go……

so windows, I have a video or 2 about this over at “Motorhome Rehab Ranch” but in that summer is the busy time for our communal tinkers here in Florida, with 6 coaches needing tint it was obvious I had to come out of Tinting retirement and get in there.  Tinting is like bowling, once you have the idea it all has to do with you patience … and how many strikes u than throw in a row!

So uncovering the oLe tint cart I went down, picked up some new tools, an fresh Olla knife and some of the new ceramic reflecting hi performance film. Th cart doesn’t look like much, it’s had a hard life after I hung up the squeeze but hey, it works for me…20170718_062527 And yesterday I woke up those muscles and coach 1 is done.  Going out today, I couldn’t go home last night til it was done!

So let’s talk about film, your coach as a color of @ 35% which means it will obsorb and only let 35% of all wavelengths of light in.  Ok, but the absorption of that light heats up the glass.  Color is not what rejects the heat as much as a reflective surface.  These are call “reflectI’ve or hi performance film.  until recently, the best performance film was “metalized” particle film and it has worked very well rejecting by reflecting back up to 80% of the heat waves without equally effecting the rest of the light waves.

You know how progress goes…. now we have a new product that will not effect cell phone signals the way metalized film may have… it’s called “Ceramic” film.  No  Tyron, you and Julie don’t have a new job….. somehow those Elves at Keebler found some way to suspend tiny ceramic particles in the window film…. brilliant!

ok, let’s see it…. here is the original 35% color with the equivalent color of ceramic film behind it.  20170718_062558  You can see while dark u can still see in and out somewhat. 20170718_062612.  Heat rejection is the main issue in this project and really in any tint project but the next coach is using the color of the window to mesh in with its Paint scheme.  in this case I’ll use a darker 20% equivalent film which will do the same heat rejection job but also do what’s needed in the “racoon” style category.  20170718_062540 . Will have the same ceramic stuff in a darker shade, stay tuned for that.  JD’s coach is now getting it’s window rubbers, refinished and resealed frames before I set myself loose at HIS racoon layout. 20170718_062844  like I said we have a pile of tint jobs in here right now.  After that one, Ruby will get windows referred and cleaned.  with no cabinets… or interior for that matter the tint work would go well now, I know Cedric will stay tuned for that!

supposed to rain today, good weather for tinting, the rain k oaks the suspended stuff in the air pause helps create “dead air” where all that dust isn’t blown around into my film!  maybe Scotts today, we’ll see…..

So whether u have an early or late coach, step 1 is to rebuild the windows…. get that 40 years of Krud out of there.  the cleaner you can be the better the tint outcome.  Use quality film…. no filter film, it turns purple in time and do a bunch of them before you hope it to look good.  Like bowling, ya gotta get past the gutter ball stage!

So for the close now.  If you have old tint already on your coach…. I’m sorry.  Getting that crap off enough to put new down is as daunting a job or more than tinting.  EVERY last piece of film and glue must come off.  A good single edge razor blade and light soapy water (use Dawn) and get after it.  If you have no film, the tracks, felt or whatever needs to be squeaky clean   ……  Hey… the lap top came on!!!!!  So tinting with ceramic performance film will coat you @ $750, with old film maybe another $200.  Of course labor costs vary and if the tinter wants and can tint windows this big.  If they are used to 4 door compact cars tinting a GMC might be a bit overwhelming!  We have 6 jobs now in house, I can get more film, if you’re backing your brain come on to Orlando…. I’ll do it for ya!

ok, my plunking finger is tired, I need it later today.  hope there was something here for ya, see ya tomorrow..
