GMC Motorhome, fresh motor run in (updated)

Because of how difficult it is to install a motor in a GMC, it’s important to check as much as you can BEFORE the motor is installed.  We have a fresh motor being delivered to us today by Drew.  This is the first motor we’ve dealt with since moving to our new digs so come with me while I get ready to receive then run the motor in on this 1966 Toronado front clip motor-run-stand-7  Listen, I see I already have several hundred of you on line watching me plunk here.  Gimme @ 15 minutes… I’ll show you why when I get back.  Have breakfast, get a shower or get that first responsibility out of the way and I’ll be back.  Talk to ya in a few…

OK, I’m back.  Got word that the custom pushrod set was here and the motor should be delivered to day.  If things work well, Drew and his buddy are coming in Sunday to run the motor in.  This is going to be a fun weekend!!

I have sonme work to do first, this will be the first motor run in at our new shop and though the paint program is off, interior got put back til this coming Monday our mechanical area isn’t set up yet.

The other guys are not out still…. hey, I do understand his struggle trying to find a paint property.  We’ll have to do what we can.

I dug out our run in stand from the old mechanical shop.  First job is to get all the grease off…. never again…..  motor-run-stand-6.As I explained before, this is a 1966 Toronado front clip harvested years ago.  Degreased now we brought it into the shop to repair and rewire the rig motor-run-stand-1  I have the instrument cluster early trhis morning motor-run-stand-2  All mechanical gauges… cept for tach of course.  All set up on the top radiator support motor-run-stand-3

Pulled our cherrie picker out and had it also degreased.  This morning I’m setting up to accept the motor and set it up to run motor-run-stand-4  Come back this afternoon and I’ll try to post some pics of this process….

The day is on and I’m on the train.  Have fun today… a weekend ahead… more fun at the shop for me….

ELVIS has entered the building…..  Ron-at-Drews-7  I asked Drew to leave one of the valve covers off so I could show the roller tip[ rocker mod  Ron-at-Drews-6This is a comp Olds roller tip rocket set up.  Using this gives you valve train adjustment and the opportunity to use our unique “Kryptonite” cam profile    Ron-at-Drews-5  You can see the red break in lube on everything.  The plan is 9AM Sunday morning we convene a prayer meeting where the motor will get on the stand and fired up.  Stay tuned for that….   .
