GMC Motorhome, FiTech instalation continued

As we resume from last time you saw there are more things to consider installing a fuel injection system than just the system…. even a descent running motor really has to be seriously checked out.  Pull the intake, block off the exhausts…… pull off the water pump, timing chain and all that mess……. I mean you’re trying for a more reliable, good running motor.  Simply plopping that FiTech “magic box”… in true southern vernacular…. it ain’t gonna happen!

So with the intake off, the Keeblers out…. after vacuuming the valley, pour a quart of oil all over the surfaces to “wash down” any lingering particulates.  Now wer lightly (glue) down the stainless steel exhaust blockoff plates and allow them to tac up to keep them in place.  These plates will come in our install kit…..Marlin intake 26  Now glue down the Fiber intake gasket set with the Permatex Ultra-grey RTV sealant.  BTW…… this sealant is silocone ….. there’s that dreaded word many folks thing they need to run from.  This is “RTV” silocone sealant with a high heat tolerance…. we also use an architectural RTV sealant on the coach body in some places…….. SEE, all silocones are not bad!

OK, so the cleaned up, magna-fluffed, painted, blocked off and glued down… the top of the motor is ready for the FiTech system.  Marlin intake 19Not yet!  We have more work to do…… the front of the motor has to be put back together…….  Remember that “loose as a goose” timing chain?  Marlin intake 15  Now the new double roller, true roller timing chain needs to occupy this space  Marlin intake 28  Now guys, don’t skip this and think you’re timing chain is fine unless you KNOW it’s been changed.  Look at the wear on the original… working crank gear… see the wear pattern on the teeth……. is well on it’s way to death!  Marlin intake 29  OK, do what you will but this is way to far into it’s wear curve for you to keep.  You have been warned…..  You need one of these!  Marlin intake 27  Hey, is proper performance of your motor worth another hundred dollars?  OK, so now with a new water pump the front of the motor goes back together  Marlin intake 20  Oh yeah, I could have painted all the brackets and all that…… the question is never “what to do” rather it’s always “where to stop”.  If you want spanky clean and painted brakets let us know but if you want it to work, clean all that stuff up , degrease it all and be done with it.  I can hear the techno-geeks right now….” just one more step!  and then there’s the bolts, then the power steering housing, then this then that look…… I want it to work, I want it serviceable but “chrome” don’t make it faster!  Lemme know how far you want me to go!

Off that soap box yes, you can get some heat paint, some wanna go back to all factory colors on everything….. super…. and like the comment from your waited at the up-scale Italian restaurant comes as you place your selection……”that’s my favorite”.  The reinforcement is important…… Do what you will with this……

Getting the FiTech kit:

    JayGee FiTech 7

Now we’re at the part where you dish out some bucks….. it’s a shame but today sales of automotive performance parts has been pushed to the “big box, on line dealers”.  We say it’s good…. free freight… and I have to agree.  I saw the marketing consumer electronics specialty shops simply fade away when mosters like Circuit City first, then Best Buy and all the other companies trying to further that marketing concept were totally absorbed by the “Borg”.  On line did that market in and that’s why I can to do what I do today.  I’ve had it with “marketing” and the bell curve that all bow to.  Getting the parts is no longer the big deal….. figuring out what to do WITH the parts is now about the only thing sacred anymore and even the face of THAT has changed……  I mean I’m now telling you to call Summit and purchase the following parts to put this FiTech system in your coach……… AND I’m giving you how to do it.  So there it is, you now have all you need……  Here’s something, if you appreciate what we are helping you here…… you can still show that appreciation…… at the end of this procedure, I’ll list out parts we can supply to you to go along with the Summit parts that you will need to complete your installation.  There are some hoses, filter, the block off plates, etc. that you will need to pick-up……. our “kit” will gather all that stuff into a care package you can purchase from us allowing us to make it easier for you to get all that you needs AND the knowledge to install it.

You can pick that up from us at the same time get one of our Co-op work shirts and all that by becoming a “Ranch Hand” over at the Motorhome Rehab Rannch.  hey, you have to admit we’re trying our best to help the community with this FiTech stuff AND a pile of other things.  Support us, we support you…..

OK, enough of the gratuitous advertising….. below are the parts you need to call up Summit and order right now:

Part #             Part description            Unit Price

FIF-30003              Go Street EFI                    795.00

ATX-E8248             Electric fuel Pump               75.97 (buy 2)

SPE-752                  Air Intake Kit                     157.04

KNN-RG-1001RD     Universal Chrome Filter       26.99 (I know… chrome)

EDL-2696                 1/2″ thick spread bore        19.96
 adapter

So there it is….. GO BUY THAT.  These are Summit’s numbers… wanting to remain “Bi-Partisan” I’m sure Jegs also has the parts….. I mean it’s not the parts……

OK so this is where we’re at.  Buy the stuff, at the end of this procedure there will be a “care package” we can send you with this manual and all the bits and pieces that do not come with the stuff you got.  It’s really not much but anything worth doing is worth planning…. let us supply you with the rest of what you need…… you will HAVE the knowledge from here…

We’ll continue this tomorrow……

in the meantime Rick’s Candy blue sapphire powder coated quad bag system and Manny’s reaction arm system is going in the other side Morin powder coating 25 Pretty cool, the rest of the powder coated suspension will be on shortly  Morin powder coating 18  Hey and the first 1979 Ford pick-up we’re restoring actually looks like a truck again!  Bruce Ford 15  This one gets the full chrome package….. should look sweet!

OK, I gotta go… see ya tomorrow.
