GMC Motorhome, FiTech #2 instal… JayGee

So now the time-stress is on mine….. the $99,000 question is always “whenz it gonna be done” … it’s like staring at that cookie sheet in the oven…… makes ya almost not want to eat one looking at all the time it took to bake them!  Hey but we do and now it’s time to install the new FiTech fuel injection system on my coach “JayGee”.  I mean understandably when the question comes up do I work on my coach or a customers…. I always for for the customer …. hey my coach is always the one to kick back…….. Well now we’re at the 11th hour on getting to the GMC Sunshine Statesmen rally in the Keys.  The spot was a small fortune so loosing that by not getting there would be a waste…… we DID get JayGee up on the lift yesterday……

JayGee FiTech 3 Oh, BTW, I need to leave the shop tomorrow with the coach to get there on time…. and here is the top of the motor  JayGee FiTech 4

There’s something missing….. oh yea, it’s THE FUEL INJECTION SYSTEM!!!!  Crap, Janie & I need to ride this puppy TOMORROW!  The guys did get the mods done to the fuel tanks and got the pump and filter on the outside of the frame rails JayGee FiTech 5  We’re leaving the filter socks on inside the tanks to see if that step could be bypassed on the install.  I mean if that had to be done the tanks would need to be dropped to install the system…. a lotta labor!  They have the tank drains combined, the return connected going into the front tank original outlet and the pump and filter connected to the rear tank.

On the motor pic above, you can see the intake was removed, cleand, blockoff plates and a fiber style intake gasket with Ultra-grey Permatex gluing it all together.  It was painted our motor color (gun metal grey)… you know… a big hunk of metal…..

I timed up the motor with it’s carb to be sure the ignition, timing and the distributer was all set and working well before the fi install.  Tuning is a wild card that needs to be addressed before the new FiTech system goes on…. I mean I KNOW how to set up the ole Q-jet, this eliminates these parts from the fi tuning equation….

OK, JayGee… you will be going under soon…. think thoughts of all the good times you will have with a new… FiTech lung…… OK, count back from 10…..9…..8  and he’s out…… get started!    JayGee FiTech 6

So now the clock is ticking… Jared and Phillip are scrubbed up and the “operation in progress” sigh in lit.  Stay tuned……

This is a bad time to take off to the Keys… we have “Rock the Alps” delivering next week along with a few others by the end of the month… hey, it always happens this way.  Good thing we’ve dealt with pressure like this before…. Oh yea and the guys are heading to Louisiana to deal with the flamed out (non Timken) bearings while we’re gone…. it’s gotta happen!  Oh yea you KNOW “Rock the Alps” will get new bearings too!  So yea, this is going to be an action packed rest of the month!  Stay tuned……
