Got up some extra energy for this morning… I have tires for Rock the Alps o do. The w is are mounted to Andy’s Alcoa rims Hey, those old tires don’t look bad! Yes, the coach had been packed away in some warehouse… maybe we could keep them? Wait… look at the tires date code
See the stamped circled numbers 3 7 0 7 reading it says the tire was manufactured the 37th week of 2007! What 10 years old? Really, you just can’t take a chance of running tires on your 26′ plastic Corvette lower body on tires over 5 years old! So it’s new slippers for “Rock the Apls” and this morning I’m truing them all to get a head start on the day
Today, Rock the Alps is in hover mode… rims off with it’s new charcoal tweed awning fabric unfurled This afternoon with the tires trued and balanced, some battery switching added up front we’ll be ready to start shakedown rides….. stay tuned…..
6″ of 320 foam with 2″ of memory foam is custom cut for our upholster to make up Andy’s mattress. Stay tuned for that project…. .
.
And now for a report on today’s subject. Fuel Injection …. I’ve held on to my beloved Q-jet carbs not wanting to put my customers in harms way if problems came up with all the aftermarket fuel injection systems out there. Hey, they work fine as long as you understand the system and can be the first line of diagnostics….. hey but what about the guy who really isn’t interested in filling his head with all that mess to dive their coach?
Ahhhh, that’s the guy I design stuff for and that’s why I’ve stayed with our carbs. I mean you can squirt WD-40 and get out of the intersection…. not so when a FI system goes out…. no way to quickly get going……
Technology today is changing things… to this point, fuel injection has been complicated and rather pricy. At the last SEMA all the big carb guys are coming out with self learning, easy to install with a max of gadgets …… low cost! Now you can buy 2 kits, throw 1 under the sofa and WHEN something goes wrong…. these new parts changer techs can use the second one to get you going! Sounds stupid? Look, you will have the same parts cost buying 2 of these new systems to one of the older systems.
Hey is your computer still on Windows ? You have to keep up to get all the neat new stuff… right? Well, this same technology has now crept into the automotive performance industry so why don’t we ride this slide too? This one is fitted to a 70’s Ford, 351 Cleveland industrial truck motor…. the system for JayGee….
I will not offer this to a customer until I see what it’s all about….. today. Katlin removed the ntake fromJayGee’s 455 original motor yesterday
The original cast intake will be cleaned and magnafluxed checking for cracks…. With luck, we will start the install tomorrow morning.
Hey, don’t look at us at the first to try this… I’ve been watching and driving John D. 28′ stretch fitted with this system drve very nice even pulling Ralph the FiTech system he installed was sweet . See that John, I WAS listening! New technology may save us from Ethanol… lets see. Stay tuned for posts titled “FiTech” fuel injection…….
OK, I have tires to true… see ya tomorrow…..
