Behind the scenes pieces/parts are coming together on Ruby’s door or how about rediscovering how the prototype guys figured out how to get the door to latch. Actually, the door never did grab on the second latch …… they cut oll sorts of holes but the problem was the forwar bolt block was too big Here was the problem…and BTW is something your coach may need too. The front edge of the striker plate is too long..it hits the door not allowing it to travel in far enough to catch the second latch…here is the striker plare trimmed back to the attachment bolt
I’m leaving the wrapped string and tape on the striker plate…the pin was too small so they built it up……on the fly! Hey that’s history! Now I will elongate the front holes in the striker plate and we will finally…after 40 years this door will shut properly! The new exterior latch has been modified getting the original interior pin taken from the original latch and welded in place on the new latch
Phillip only stitched it with “4 dimes”…should work fine…yeah, the new one was made in Tiawan…there it is??? What can ya say!
With the original aluminum adapter plate polished… Ruby’s door goes together soon….stay tuned……
Now on the Airstream projects the “belly pan” to me is a crazy thing to do. O don’t want to have secluded cavities under the trailer The insulation under the floor long past rotted out to show the raw 1/2″ wood floor
In the other Airstram we are replacing the floor we found this cavity deep enough to hold an original GMC rotomolded holding tank…Airstream had the poopy tank inside the trailer….EEEeeeUUuuuuuuWwwww!
Bad design man! The belly pan will go away, POR-15 will cover the metal then rubberized undercoating will go on the underside of the floor
Gotta go, stay tuned for more on these 2 Airstreams..and we have a painted Argosy next!
See ya tomorrow…….
