GMC Motorhome: 1973 only door latch

While my upholster guy keeps the pressure up on finishing the refinishing of the door panels for Ruby & Texas Tux…….. I need those done before I can move on …still I got back over on Ruby to do a refinish I though you may be interested in.

Many of you know the story of the less than stellar debut of the GMC Motorhome ….you know, when the entry door wouldn’t open and there were live video passing the wife of the president of GM …in a full gown….out the window…..yikes…someone was going to take the hit and it was blamed on the Bargman exterior latch that bout every RV made at the time used.

As you know, all precut 1973 entry doors had to be modified for the new latch and sport this spiffy stainless steel plate with a curious GMC logo plate…I guess to dress it up  cedric door 4  An entry door after the first year were precut like this cedric door 6 Have you ever looked at a 1973 door and see what the guys on the assembly line had to do the modify the door for our normal lock?  Well this is a good one to look at, Ole #41 here could have been the ONE they figured out how to cut the door…… look at Ruby’s door with the latch assembly out  cedric door 7 And why am I so bold to say maybe this was #1 door mod?  Remember that stainless steel “adapter plate”?  Well the adapter plate for Ruby isn’t shaped the same…and is made of aluminum!  cedric door 9 The black trim is original but has fallen out of most 73′ doors.  One of my jobs today is to locate that exact black trim mold.  I need to restore this unique part exactly!  Hey Cedric, do we want this restored part finished off polished, “clear” aluminum (dull) or brushed?  lemme know your thoughts…… Hey, there is no SOP, none of these panels were ever aluminum!  We will refinish the logo plate in place….

The announcement yesterday that our gates were temporarily close for new work was kinda surprising to me but Jared came in and said we were stretching our labor assets too thin.  I cannot do that to the projects we have in house so something has to give.  When this work becomes unfun with overlapping deliveries and just too much to do… no one wins on that.  These are all like old …really old in car years houses…..all of which have problems…termites, foundation subsidence, utility failures..and roof leaks…and they all are someones pride and joy….and they all need our love to bring them back  2.6.18 morning 1  So everyone relax, we’re growing but we can’t grow ourselves out of quality.  Our abilities have grown, our workforce, facility and now our systems have to catch up.  Life is good, just a bunch of it.  Hey, these are luxury things anyway, you should never paint yourself into a corner that it will cost you money or a vacation if everything doesn’t go right working with a GMC Motorhome…it’s just not worth the stress.  These babies need LOVE……some more than others and some more often than others!  And there is little more in this situation to do.  Guys with stuff in here….I HAVE to fix folks coming in broken down but trust me…I’ll get them up and get back to task….Hey, you would want me to do that for you!

So the day is on, I’ll see ya tomorrow…..
