………but there was a nugget of excitement that I gotta tell you about. As you guys know, we’ve been doing some big changes in our business structure to target more effectively this growing market.
One of this first things we did and one that kinda saddened me at first was switching to ONLY accept GMC Motorhome projects……..even my banker said that’s alote of eggs in one basket and turning away from a segment of the vintage RV community other than the one smaller pool of customers. As the facts turned out there’s much more in the GMC community mainly but not limited to the design of the thing itself.
There’s so much work now addressing the needs of this emerging market……one of the things that had to go was working with anything else. Lake this awesome survivor of the agethe last Mohegan….. We’re only taking in Cherokee now….. But this is a really unique matching ….so close to going home noe it lost its parking spot in the corral…..its an Argosy “tribute” made up my guys when it was new. It has everything a deluxe MacDaddy. Airstream would be appointed with…..but it’s an Argosy!
What to do with a machine like that but during it back to glory………mechanicals are always first so our mission was to get all the mechanical badass but we would have to pull the plug on the project then……man that hurt but I had to agree it was the best thing for the company.
But man did we make a rocket out of this thing! We went in deepthe 400 tranny banged 3 well and a bonus to the low mileage barn find the motor had good compression so the decision was made to change everything else.yeah, that narrow opening is what Argosy gives you for manure motor work but we went in here. The one guy in town that still cores radiator made us a new one AND a new heater core too that was a leaker. The CVF Serpantine belt system gave us the rotary ac compressor to reconstruct the dash AC system….new tranny cooler and AC condenser…..primary electrical system rework with the 1 wire 130+ amp late model alternator/Srmlac combiner. Sump power steering pump system…you can see the billet cylinder well in the right of the pic.
FiTech fuel injection with the forced fuel accumulator system. Here’s the readout set on the 4 of like 30 parameters you can real time monitor on the FiTech screencheck it out…..pulling over to take this pic……in at 804 rpm with its target set at 750…..give it 10 seconds. Water temp is 168 after @30 miles of driving…it never got to 180 degrees to tune on that run. The 1 wire alternator is 13.1, perfect. And vacuum in gear with rotary AC compressor on -16.3….boya!
This Chevy P-30 chassis was fitted with a 3.80 diff gear which mean this thing as a pocket rocket up to @40 mph. It LEAPS from a traffic light. If it were a car it would be called a “holeshot”!those dually wheels hook up and you’re out of the stink right now! Mashed cats, scalded dogs and this thing have one thing in common!
I got looks…….. What would YOU do if you were in the right lane of a 4 lane road and this thing with the grill missing (it’s in the coach) blows past the entire line of traffic……outa my way!
Brakes are perfect, taking curves fast is a little interesting but the alignment has the aluminum tube sliding straight with a nice light wheel.
The original oil pressure gauge Hasan woken up fast but we have “whale sign” so I felt ok taking this ride with the oil gauge beating the floor.she’s not done by any means but after my 34 mile “drive it like ya stole it” test run….man this puppy will go home soon and be finished. I wish I were doing it but things have changed…..our last endeavour though is the badass rocket we knew it could be. Another good day and another proud vintage RV has its lease on life……. ..drop the Mic………and walk away………..
My exercise routine…. Climbing the 13 steps to the warehouse where it’s been put to me to “get the lead out”!it’s coming apart and the junk is going to the dumpsterand the stuff is going away….look at the to 1976 under dash AC factory vents or the half dozen metal glove box assemblies…oh and that box of wires are the GM early fuel injection systems I tried to work with over 10 years ago……that Crap ALL need to go to Stovacor!
Alrightythen, I’ve got stuff to do and I know you do to. That a may be a couple of new videos over on Motorhome Rehab Ranch…i know 1 new one on air bags that will probably piss off most of you who read it…..please listen to the technology…….
See ya later
Oh wait….i forgot. We have a new communication conduit:
