7.17.15 Before I go over my thought for the day, to support yesterdays roll, take a minute while I mess with pics and search on YouTube for “wanderlustestate”. James there is at the critical point in his RV experience of outgrowing his van where he chooses to live full time and along with his gal looking to move into an RV lifestyle.
Right now his is deep into his discovery… following the same path of discovery each of us have travelled. The interesting part of his journey is before going in, he has been lurking around here at the shop soaking in all that’s happening around here learning as he goes.
He saw how nasty the prospect was when looking at an older RV industry built coach.. I mean watching Miss Piggy as she was forced into our back gate all but having 1 side wall cracking and bout falling off! He has investigated picking up a low priced “core” coach and what he would need to put out in sweat equity to get it back to the road and now…
I don;t wanna ruin the plot but he has now moved to something more to his ability and budget to get operational, livable and road worthy for his situation. It’s an exciting story for those looking to jump into this pool thinking of full timing on the road and things like that…
So at first you may say.. heck, this isn’t GMC content!!! but wait, follow along with me. Everyone needs diversions in life.. what’s the saying “doing one thing over and over makes for a dull boy” or something. Well, after 22 years of having the GMC as my object of frustration for bout everyone one I meet… I have gravitated a bit to other means of transportation NOT cars, trucks or buses.
You’ve been forced to follow me… if you kept reading my odyssey with motorcycles…. from my war horse ole Honda Goldwing who finally eyes Xed over locked up killing that fun until the next day finding another one.
Couldn’t help myself, I needed a 1975 Honda GL1000 in my stable. And holy maholy… set up as a 1000cc street bike what a fun thing.. Then came the side car circa 1938 collection of bad metal parts in the CJ750.
Ah but then came the realization that yes, they are noisy, rattle, are big and not particularly efficient in a Harley-Davidson big boy the metallic green UltraClassic- ElectraGlide and now I understand.
And it’s true, if you don’t understand you may never… It’s not all style but there is simply something about that Bub-bub-bub torque and sound.
Now stay with me guys, I’ll get back to GMC content when I get where I’m goin…
The more I ride that Red Honda.. with a Solex 1bbl. carb and all the better it seems to be running. May be I’m just getting used to it… could be getting itself together but for whatever reason I am getting a better and better experience. And I’m getting more excited about having it. I want to mess with it more, ride it more and now I’m fighting back the want to shower it with money. Hey, for all of our sakes… go out and have fun with your machine…
Again, all that is fun but motorcycles took me again where it got kinda serious… I needed to go there and this is the sort of discovery you find in understanding and appreciating a vintage RV. To get to where you are today, fully understanding your roll and the roll of your vintage RV whatever it is… each one of us travel this path but we all don;t end up at the same trailhead. Let’s say I can ride now with more confidence and understanding than before I got invested… you will see it’s the same path taken to get there with your motorhome. Some of you are there, others are on the path.. sometimes steep while others downhill. Each of us take the trail differently.
Yeah, I’m getting a little on the lofty side but seriously a minute this is at the core of your motorhome experience. I’ll give you proof… after 22 years of this, when I meet someone for the first time or even several times… after the introduction of them the ir awesome dog, cat or both and linking their roots and their love for their motorhome it’s almost a must for an owner to not only want to show of their coach but also what they did to make it their own and how they have come to use, experience and justify all they have done to get to where they are. It’s always an awesome way to get to know someone because you also are exposed to their passion. One guy says it’s his “chick magnet” while another couple introduces their coach as a member of their family. Some ask for you to remove your shoes while others show how they set the coach up to be hosed out! It’s all the same— it’s their path and they are all excited about being on it.
See, the motorcycle diversion has also become another object of frustration and something to support. Lets look for something really off the wall, something that will take me away from that at the same time keep those creative juices flowing… that just needs to stay for me…
Transportation related, what else…. bicycles and the motorizing of them to suit a need. Call it “need for speed” at whatever level… “Hey, youall wach this… hold my beer…”, maybe “Dang I like the look of that”… I don’t know
But you know all of that is still making for some serious experiences, what about something to get away with the heavy stuff, lets get into something on the light side. Something that is simply to spray some creative juices on something and get that feeling of accomplishment at that level….
Sorry, the guys are showing up so I got sidetracked…
You guys have seen some of the bicycle apparatus–es I have messed with in the past. The 36volt, 650watt front hub driven electric bike and it’s progression.
More to come… read back about the motorcycles. Sorry but see ya later
