The nature of manufacture say water leaks are a constant struggle……..why?

……….. So no one is happy when it rains inside!  There are no “resealable” body joints on a car or truck………but there is on our GMC.  These seams must be periodically cleaned out and resealed.  Many seams have only 45 year old butyl tape between the outside and you!  Prove this by removing any 1 or the 4 top side molding end caps.  There is usually an opening where the body panels meet.  There when you dig the “goopenpucky” out.  There’s a hole to the inside……..but wait there’s more!.

Butyl tape is the main sealant on the perimeter of the main aluminum roof panel…..wiggle a sheet metal thread screw on the roof and they will loosen up… .. Drive a length of time on a rock road will put body seams in a bind and a seam seam can move too far and pop a seam.

Again, cars don’t have seams like this…..the GMC does!

Part of our leak detection process includes pressurizing the interior then washing the body with soapy waterThen, we use different sealants for different seams…..and after the process is done its still a constant virulent thing AND how many times you stress the body to keep up with future leaks.

I know it’s frustrating at times but there’s no way to stop this issue “forever”…….and that’s the truth.

The specs of the sealant used is a critical issue.  We offer a “roof seal” care package which includes everything we give our techs when they have a roof seal project.  Just having the materials is 1 thing, knowing what to do with it is another.  The good news there is we will talk you through everything you need to know to do this job well .  Give us a call if this is something you would like to do to your coach…..of just bring it to us and we’ll handle it..Another leak issue is from the undercarriage.  Here Ricky pressure washes the underside of this coach with our steam Jenny blowing out dirt, grease and the other 45 years of gunk……..nexr he will paint all the metal parts like the steel frame with POR-15……. a rust killer and herd coat protector of metal parts.  Then the undercarriage gets a thick coach of rubberized undercoat.  We use Wurth products “hi build underseal”.  We can ship you this product.

If you wonder if you need 5his process, look at the bottom of your rear wheel well.  It sits on the wood floor panel.  You will see the ply layers of your floor exposed……..i rest my case!

Water comes in from everywhere and with an on board fresh water system…..you may be watering your coach from the inside!  THAT’S another project !

So if you have water trying to get in, let’s fix that…..for now…..

As I’ve been honking about we’re a GMC exclusive facility……. We’re using this project as “proof of concept”This way we don’t tear up a GMC putting this 18,000 but “split unit” ac/heat system.  If it works in a portable barber shop it’s worth giving it a shot incorporating it into the GMC………this is how you field engineer new ideas and technologies.  Agreed the rear bumper art is a bit excessive but hey, what’s out back of YOUR barber shop!  Stuff like does the unit work while moving and does the vibration effect the system.  Does it move air through the cabin well?  Can it be plumbed in an effective manner?  Stay tunes on what we find……..

Ok, 6:30 and I’m pumped for the day.  We are delivering 2 more projects today which means you will see new projects coming in….  …..exciting times for sure!  See ya tomorrow
