Just like being cold and playing in the snow, I also am not as much a football fan as I probably should being a southern redneck but there it is. So yesterday was less about the Superbowl and more about a free day AND a Sunday all wrapped together. Sunday already is mine but while everyone else in the world have salty fingers from the chips I can do something else with a free concience.
Janie is with her Mom doing stuff….I’m on my way to the shop. The whole place to myself…..but wait Jason is there laying down on the job on our “EM-50” project.Ssanding the roof on a GMC is like sweeping flat the go by desert! You find solo much up there one on one with the surface…..its hard to explain
yoh just need to be there……and here……and even way over there
Its just such a big, flat place up there and there’s just no way around it. Sure its just the roof but it much more than that. It ALL makes a difference……..
This morning there was a thread about why folks “gut” a coach then end up selling it off as is. First off, I’ve seen GOOD builders, mechanics…folks that really have some talent start one of these restorations and find they just don’t have the full picture to finish the project. In the time and money they have left…….is more the crust of the matter. We fixate on the money it takes but actually to us that have screwed up enough in life to be at this point its really more about the time you would need to devote AND even the viable time you have left. I have built coaches for folks who knew their condition would be deteriorating after contracting what will ultimately end your life. When you look at time in THIS way……messing with a motorhome for a % of the time you have left is not on your bucket list.
If enjoying a vintage RV IS on your bucket list but taking the time to build it too is not……..that IS why we are here…what drives our business AMD why we are buried with work! If you are a thinking man and DO have the money to turn your dream alive…….that’s why folks seek us. We can do the work for less than you learning to do something on your coach. Not many folks roof their house….this is the same thing and why we are doing this. You wanna roof your house? Call me anyway and let me help you. THAT’ S why I started The Co-op in the first place.
Ok, I posted a little on that thread but I can say more here……so there it is. Wether you get your fill from watching us do stuff for other people, to learn so you don’t make a mistake or you understand and want a nice machine as soon as you can realistically have one…….that’s us……..we’re probably NOT more expensive than YOU learning to roof your house then fall off the roof and break something! …..in the end, who spend more and took more valuable time from their lives……
So MY Superbowl Sunday was filled with some OTHER excitement…….
So as I drove home before dark yesterday I had that good feeling when you know your work for that day is done! My electrical work IS mostly done now on the Mercedes 455 SLWwith the retro, rat rod, race car inspired driver control panel wired and mostly operational.
This classic Mercedes though pretty much rotted our has been resurrected to be a real time drive train run in stand for GMC motors and transmissions.
incredulously welded to the trunk of the sports car, the GMC front clip will hold a complete motorhome drive train allowing us to actually drive the power plant together BEFORE the set up goes into the coach to the tune of 30 hours in labor!
Likr I said, I’m down to a single page punch list on this critter but it CAN go out on the road today! So yeah, my Superbowl Sunday WAS a red letter day for me.
I went to bed early while the game was one……this morning new said I didn’t miss much.
The game is in the can and so is our motor stand………I got a good nap, this morning I’m at the shop before dawn looking for some vacuum line for the transmission…….I want to hit 2nd gear when I drive it……..soon!
Today is the first day of the rest of your life…..make something of it. Thanks for dropping by, we’ll see ya tomorrow…….
