Coming in off the road, a hot shower and some of Jamie’s Chilli I walk into the shop the same time Cedric arrived with a clan of girls from the UK…….all family…wife and 3 daughters …I wasn’t meaning…well moving on…. They came on holiday to visit Ruby and of course leave some tax dollars in out state thank you very much……anyway I got caught up with showing off where we were…..here’s a pic from before I left.We were having so much fun looking at stuff, picking colors and just having a good ole time talking Ruby…..I forgot to take any pics! Ahhhh even Neson W. rode over on his bike, Steve P. Came by….used to work here with us…..all of that happened and o never raised my phone, dang it, I wanted u guys to be a part of the fun….guess I’ll just have to call myself selfish. I’ll do better tomorrow.
But that’s not why I said “I stepped in it” earlier. No, I live in THAT pile………..
No, talking about the pile I kinda created then stepped in on Facebook a while ago. Social communication is nothing but awesome…….but of course but also it has turned on end to even evaporating many lives not to mention the industries they imploded.
Yeah, a bit of a rant but I’ll protect the innocent……… A perfect example….what did you aspire to be when you grew up? Chances are that industry is dead if not gone through a massive change. I was in the consumer electronics profession…….all that stuff is all gone today to an underground few who will pay 5 prices for a piece of their past perfection. The same will happen to the GMC if we are not careful. We bask in the glow of so many parts available…..right now. The internet works to ferrit out every last “Thneed” (if you follow Dr.Suess) anyway the Revcon motorhome community used to have 1 forum…it’s gone along with the 1 guy who had hoarded all of the vital parts the Revcon community needed to keep their unique coaches on the road. Today, do NOT break the windshield on a Revcon!
So what I stepped in was over reacting…I know who me….when a guy was talking about buying a part for his GMC from Rock Auto……ok, I should just let it go but then the other shoe went in when another guy was talking about a water pump he got and another getting the wrong power steering pump. We, I need to just shut up because 1 had the part given to him. It was still the wrong part and yes, the GMC parts source dealers out there would have never gotten him the wrong part. Its just so many think the world is just “beat the price”. Its just terrible what the internet has done to so many fine smaller shops which BTW is supposed to be the backbone of America! The internet is breaking the small, honest mans back.
I can whine without the beer guys yelling, long ago I stopped devoting operating dollars to inventory for sale. Every week cost from China go down, the cost of labor increases……..then the availability of you to source right back to the village where the part was made by child labor Heck, why would anyone want to be a link in that destructive chain! No, if you want a part from me, the parts we have because they are the parts we use….gimme a call. I do not solicit or look to parts sales to pay our light bill. The lights are here for our restoration customers.
The parts I have are for them, they fit, they work well and I know that. As to some door As that somebody found from a guy in a phone booth….I want no part of that in fact though it does hurt our longevity of our coach as viable transportation. Look, I’m not saying spark plugs, air or oil filters but unique things you may need help with to understand what is needed, that’s why the GMC dealers are here for. I give out parts numbers on things you don’t need to look to me for. That’s just trying to help……..I do though appreciate the support on hard stuff to find……and that depends on how much u know or maybe think u know.
A guy is faced with replacing his motor. He understands quality and what should be done but a deal comes up on a motor that was just too good to pass up………… There’s a problem with the motor….we live and continue to learn. A short cut is just that and that’s what you get. There’s nothing that reflects like 3000 grit finish then polish.but I’m getting off topic…..parts…right …so yeah, many parts can be found today using the internet…we do it every day and I suggest you do to. If you are doing something for the first time though do some homework using the internet before you go into things. Try and understand the challenge and make a decision for yourself if you feel you need help…..I have a guy who had me ship him a set of rear bearings and never asked the price. Well he said he trusted he would get the right part and I’ve been around 29 years and didn’t do that by ripping folks off. Yes, he got Temkin .Bearings and all his brake parts fitted too.
The point is trust…….if you don’t trust anyone and feel good when you put one over on someone just don’t even start with me.
Don’t call and say you’re calling around and what’s your price on…………….. Click will be my response. Sorry, I don’t compete like that. I’m sensitive like that………Consumer Electronics is gone, we have killed the local small dealer…..some say they needed to go……..they did so now what? The GMC community cannot loose any of our valuable dealer network. We all work together and when 1 suffers we all do.
So yeah, that’s the pile I stepped in. Parts sources, internet sales and all that comes with it is changing the world as we know it. Kinda scares me at the same time…….Heck we’re on it with now!!! All of us falling right in…..me to…….I guess its true…the only thing that’s stable is change. This is why we here at the Co-op have our experiences to help you when that parts list won’t……..See…steppin in it again……..exactly why I don’t sell Motorhomes or promote parts sales…….I just don’t want u to get hosed.
So lemme move on smelly shoes and all. I’ll do my best as the Cub Scout motto professes. I’ll get some pics for ya tomorrow.
Marco’s motor opens up….stay tuned and there’s more fun afoot….see ya then.
Works both ways. Also found CMW through the internet…….
