EXACTLY! None of us got our morning fix! Hey, it effected me too but I had to spend part of the day over on my other job….. this weekend I’ll be visiting the “Tin Can Tourists” down in Sarasota Saturday too. Yesterday it was over at a new Prevost level luxury coach dealer setting upt talks with their techs for fire suppression installations. There’s all sorts of things I’m also responsible for with Fire Fight Products. In a real way, helping more than just vintage RV’s with the apparent RV fire dangers this is a more pressing issue. Think about this:
85% of your RV is made of Class A flammable material….propelled by many different Class B vapor flammables…… on board there are 3 Class C electrical systems…a power plant and a pile of old wires. All smashed into a box being exposed to an 8.1 Richter scale vibrations for long periods of time….Oh, and in our case all of it is 40 years old!….I mean WHAT could go wrong! Protect yourself accordingly……. It’s all kinda up to you…….
So I was all over that yesterday. The guys were working on and I wanted to show you a new part. As all of you guys know, we are being bombarded by LED lights from China. And just like back in the 80’s when I worked for Panasonic, next years products would always be better and cost less….I never could buy a stereo and be happy because I knew in 6 months the new one would be better and cost less! A terrible predicament, always knowing if we wait it will always cost less and be better…….
Well here we are, after the month long Chinese New Years celebration and month long party, all the new designs and prices come out and we fight over it all for the next year! That’s how this world market turns…….
So what’s new? HID awesome headlights that’s what! Take a look at the front of this mild mannered mere mortal coach. The bat ray hits it and whom……. the light comes to life! This is an LED “halo” daytime driving ring…….kinda cool but look t it from a bit back This is in amber set up…it could be white …the camera washes the detail but then we turn on the projectoe HID regular headlights again pretty cool but lets get in front of the projector Hey and THAT’S low beam!
Remember when installing these had a separate transformer, relay and wiring? Well now it’s all in the bulb head! In our new office/showroom over the Fire Fight Products suppression display are the critters Fresh off of the Chinese New Years new crop Like I said, the way they preplan our “I want that” will always make the new stuff better and the price? Heck how long ago..not far…HID sets like this were $450……Last year you could pick up a set for @ $250…cheap! Now…today this set is $200….better and costs less!…..unreal!
OK, Jared just pulled up…see you on page 2…...
OK, the captain and crew are on duty…… the plank was pulled up so we are away from the dock and underway…….. take your Dramamine, there may be rough seas……
So lets talk a little more about the progression of the LED (light emitting diode).
When I worked as a bench tech for Lafayette Radio…in the good ole days an LED light was a new curiosity. Indicator lights would always burn out giving you a false reading. So back then, first SOP was to see if the indicator light was burned out….they were made by T. Edison like this hi tech dual element tail light bulb…everyone knew how they worked and that the filament would go bad just because! Then indicator lights went LED and they never broke again…now we believe it if it’s an LED indicator light. They pulled no current but would only work connected in one direction…..took a while to get used to that but we did. Anode and cathode….just like a tube….I’ve got it!
So the revages of time has brought us to this…here in a”new” 2 element LED bulb say 2 years ago Wow, a 15 element bulb! And it’s brightness we thought came from the sun! In the 1/2 face of the bulb that is…… We were and are still being bombarded with new LED stuff….. Then we found LED “wafers” that spread the surface of the sun out in a bigger circle…and we were there panel bonding this together Then it went rectangular and we did too with a 51 element rectangular element! And now we’re being blasted away with “super bright” LED elements Those little square white things with the yellow dot melt the old LED 194 bulb with 6 superbrights pointing in all directions. Here’s a 194 LED bulb 2 years ago See, what we think of as an LED light has now changed forever again! and look at that pic above of the new “Super bright” LED 2 element bulb that replaces the T.Edison original! Unreal! Buy the really cheapo LEDs and they will burn out…the good stuff will last a really long time! How long, I’m not sure I will be able to finish that report in my lifetime!
We have the new super brights in the mirror turn signals on Texas Tux which I hope to fire up today should work our well and here is my object of frustration for this day! Stay tuned…….
Went to the machinist yesterday to check on a motor build…..no, these are not out heads but still you can’t help but look Here’s a piston that was well done by an exploded supercharger… this is what a galled … seriously hurt Again not ours…..but this is what happens when a piston gets too hot… the lines are from melted aluminum….
See ya tomorrow and thanks for dropping by…….
