The Co-op, out to the 80’s

Normally, this would be an attempt at some cute title like “Back from the Future”  …. an article written here in Orlando on the GMC Motorhome fenam.  No, nothing deep like that, someone closed one of the blast furnace doors and right now it’s rainy and in the 80-‘s…… a good break from 46 days of no rain.  For us that’s weird so working conditions in this building are much better.

Taking my walk this morning I see Rasy has the AC recovery machine over in front of MoHo… means the dash AC system will be blowing ice.  This weekend I spent some elbow grease cleaning the 40 years of gunk from the original back wall panel from his coach   cubes soon    One might say “Why keep that orange panel?”….. well taking into account the resto-mod nature of the project puts a different light on that color    To get a 40 year old padded vinyl panel back to the living, several different cleaning events must happen.  First hose it off with Dawn dish washing liquid. Ron rear panel 4 Then you say Ha…. it’s clean…. not yet!  Next is a friction cleaning with first a brush then a scour pad… “course then finer scrubbing”  Ron rear panel 3. again with Dawn as the emulsify agent.  A good rinse then a spotting with a petroleum solvent by hand… another Dawn scrub and the final rinse.  Some might say I’m getting part of the substrate wet… hey look, if the base material has made it through all the mess so far… one more cleaning and a proper drying cycle can only help.  The drying cycle starts with a hot sun on a dry, flat surface  Ron rear panel 2  With the vinyl totally clean it needs to soften up in the sun before adding a surface finish.  Now a vinyl prep is rubbed into the vinyl… only 2 small tears that can be fixed.  Now you can see why I spent the time to do this   Ron rear panel 1  Heck, even the white safety label colors came back…

Need to get an early start on some projects I’m doing, this is a good time for me to work.  Gotta go but thanks for stopping by the neighborhood.  I used to have a scrolling banner when you hit this page    “Caution:  This page could be habit forming”   I’ll try to get it back but in many ways it’s true.. helps me get the day on and I’ve been told it does the same for you.  I’m honored to be given part of your day and I hope it was useful.  See ya tomorrow…
