…………..but before I describe THAT nonsense, I ended what I saw or see as a big point…..yesterdays IKEA kitchen…….I put on the brakes on a subject wrought with questions and comments and I say that’s great and probably because I’ve got so many other important things lined up to plunk down here…..I should further explain the skunk works project more. So lemme do that. You may need to break for lunch on today’s post….I have folks with projects in here biting their fingernails sitting on the front edge of their seats (hey, try that sometime…..its not comfortable…..I’ll wait while you try it) so I’d like to finish the IKEA kitchen then show some awesome progress the guys are pumping out.

Cute hey….. Anyway, you as the raw shape in the coachFrom here it all comes apart to epoxy texture coat the wood surfaces. Then reassemble it adding what ever storage systems we can come up with. There was a comment that finish work from this point seemed to take too much labor. What can I say, creative labor is the money sucking pig of the world….trial and error…staring time and research, if anything that labor number was conservative. Janie’s first comment as most of you or not only pack but cook in their coach was where is all my storage so it’s nice to present a stainless steel countertop but where’s the rest of the package? I’ll say it hit me a bit after spending my weekend to do all this work the first comment is “where’s the rest” hey, but its always that way. Do yourself and others a pampered favor of commenting on the mound of work done….it makes the self imposed whipping to finish the project a bit easier to endure…..just a thought…….all this stuff is just so one of……
Another comment was I was downing any other idea than what we do. ANSWER: Most certainly not! I blew my weekend to explore a point that has been thrown at me since the time that yellow brick road opened. And I do thing that with another gallon or 2 of thought it will emerge stylish in its own way. It will not yield a conventional galley but SUNNERSTA can be an option…….but (and here it comes) it will probably not cost less in finished form than a conventional build when you consider everything. ……….THERE, that’s the take away of the project and I’ll have JayGee with me so take a look at it done but you will also find this true on most other premade, knockdown or some universally made fixture adapting it into a GMC. The most useless tool working on these are a level and a square…..there’s nothing level or square. Like a boat, its cut, fit, think about it, finish, think some more then assemble in place 1 board at a time. And sometimes fitting a square peg in your round hole will take MORE TIME THAN THAT! Your further comments are appreciated and solicited. There are all kinds of communication spots on the web site all of which I haven’t mastered…..the way I get most of my input is by Email to. WWW.GMCCOOP.COM so if you have anything to say to me about this or other things….until I am given the keys to the knowledge bear with me.
MOVING ON: We are getting ready to open the can of big fat worms….oh but before that I forgot all of you sitting on that seat edge…….. Bearings, brakes and shocks are on the mechanical bring backThe new Teflon lined braided stainless UV and petroleum resistant sleeved, brush button DOT brake hoses are next to go in
(gratuitous advertising) $63.47 per side the best brake hose on the planet!
Guys….you were right, you were persistent on replacing the rear Vogt pins on Baby Blue and brother you were right! That tire that ground down was attached to a bogy pin that Bubba and Scooter did their best to fix ……at the lumber haS a you can see the “keeper” bolt on the pin to the right is missing….Ah, someone had been into this…….and the pins…both of them are swallowed out in their homes! Can’t WAIT to see why! Phillip came in late to say the hat bushings had been “bubblegum” welded and
.I’ll do pics of that later but if the mate surface between the hat bushing and Vogt casting is damaged we may need to go to a donor Vogt…….. (And this is like one of those long pauses during the old Batman episodes then some swirling music) stay tuned to see if the dynamic duo will prevail……… Spoiler…….it will all work out and isn’t it great we pulled those boy’s?
Hey, hold on to my shoe laces….I’m going in head firstOur mission is to deass the dash but as we venture in I was talking to a guy yesterday who is restoring #37 …….Crap, that thing had to be more screwed up that #41 (Ruby) were restoring………….yes, there is another ObyWon……another prototype coach being brought back to the road…..exciting stuff…… But we got into the discussion on the bowing floor issues we discovered because of degrading floor materials….look at the floor support bowing in the middle holding up the body
FrI’m the frame rail to the outside rail of the body you can see how the crossmemberss are bent. We’ve picked up the steel we think for 5 coaches….we hope to make it a field install kit for everyone to put in…..stay tuned…….
So strap in, this dash is coming out!
My pilot seat in place (a spider from a separated 16.5″ Weld rim) this original dash had been recovered in its past which means their could be trouble on the dash supports. We don’t care because we will be installing a Mac Daddy dash on the build so here we go
The dash looks like its spewing wires as it opens up…..don’t get any on ya
bit endevouring to persevere it came apart and 45 years of good intentions came out down to the original harness
and the refuse will go in a box
Next we go in for the original heater box…this project is getting the in dash set up we have been working with.
OK…….that’s done and now that can of big fat worms we’re getting ready to get up. It has taken longer than I thought to get to it…..what can I say there’s no business plan for the things we do……Ross has been a champ sitting on HIS hand on the edge of HIS seat so long waiting for our Q to catch up to a project that will certainly get inscribed on my earn right along with the Duramax coaches, the double slide and the Hum V turbo-diesels…………Gentlemen, its said anything is possible if we can think it and folks love historical stuff……..yes sir, building up a coach triibute to the EM-50……we’re gonna build 1 and it all starts right here The first palate of stuff and from here the coach will go into the cocoon for its makeover. After this much thought going into this lets name it for now EM-50 2.0 the project should be a blast…..stay tuned
I told ya I might make this plunking last til lunch! Hey, I need really to cut this off for now…….hope I didn’t put you to sleep…..we’ll see ya later………
