This is a new situation, with more coaches going out…. or should I say doing “shakedowns” I find myself now rushing around solving those things we know may happen on shakedowns all at one time! Part of every shakedown needs attention.
That’s new in that deliveries before being weeks apart I could keep up with the delivery and the communication on shakedowns were easy. Calls…. remind me on fuelling, the generator isn’t running the roof AC—- is the power cord plugged in?….. How again do I dump this thing? …. Motor is backfiring…. The wheel came off! ….. isn’t this fun! The Ragusa entry step on Fandango broke….. DDDouuuuuu! Welcome to my world!
Hey, it’s good and it’s certainly a part of it so that’s also my job. Had a wheel come off…. yes, a positive shake out of a problem!
Bearings from this point on will not just be repacked, they will all be replaced! We had replaced brake components, steel lines were done, bearings checked, repacked with new seals, etc. Now, the “etc.” will include all bearings… no one knows the history… they get replaced! As you can see, the outer bearing heated and went away. The inner bearing didn’t get hot as all. This breakdown became a perfect storm. Just installed quad bag system which would have driven the coach on 5 wheels but the emergency air compressor you guys all know to carry failed. The air ride system were not renewed.. worked so it missed the “need to do” list. What happened next? Mr/ Flat Bed saves the day
All countermeasures failed… this is why you need AAA Plus with an RV endorsement. Close to the shop, the ole girl got brought back and the shakedown cruise showed a big issue right away. The air ride system, an emergency compressor AND there will be 4 inner and 4 outer bearings and races installed. Hard to smile at it but this WAS a good shakedown! All is good with this project….
Delivering a coach to the west coast of Florida tomorrow, checking timing on a coach in Newport Richie and test driving “Rock the Alps”….. guess this is my wish come true… I want seat time! As always be careful for what you wish for….. hey, it’s part of the job!
We have more deliveries this week so yeah… the beat is really going on! JD’s coach is getting close to paint… the lift is slammed and a quad bag system finishes up today. I won’t be posting in the morning… I’ll be on the road but I might put something up this evening so I hope to see you then….
