The Co-op: Mechanical Mehem out back

……….One of our work bottlenecks is having only 1 liftBringing in a new guy that seems to be a mechanical go getter, the guys are doing what we all used to do when it had to get done……you remember, you just did it!  Ron, the guys couldn’t wait for the lift, they’re pulling your drive train apart……where it sits!In that we’re doing a Mac dash AND the new dash AC system, Jason broke down the dash pulling all that old stuff out.and then like it sneezed and blew the front of the motor out his right nostril BOOM, the under hood front is outThe goal is to have the drive train all but just sitting there the minute the lift comes open……stay tuned

Now on the lift, we have some frame restoration and another single fuel tank install, fresh radiator, etc.  The core support had to be replaced tooWhen you pull something out you find how truly worn out it is.Dash a.c. compressor out, the 2 rusty ole fuel tanks stacked over there waiting for the dumpster to get picked upOI’m cooler hoses…..by the time your oil pressure drops from one of these hoses breech…..they are on the bottom of the motor…the crank is already gone!look a little closer, nope……they’re not leaking but….if that hose were to fail, the motor would too.  Though the frame looked really straight and clean as you can see, before coating all the metal with POR-15, Phillip stitched the subframe to the ladder rails for added strength…..its going to be a bear to get any good penetration after that coating is on plus we’ve always known “belts and suspenders” whenever you install a tow bar you always bolt AND weld the structure in place……..we see this as similar to the same thing.being only bolted together, stitch welding the sub frame is good even with as nice a frame as this….except for that radiator support .the guys put the new radiator and core support in as an assemblynore the welded flange at his hand.  In the future, the lower section of the support can be removed and the radiator removed WITHOUT having to take down the rest of the core support.  This is something you all can do when removing an old radiator……cut the core support bottom off….drop the radiator straight down then wled on the flanges and bolt the lower core support back on…..one day in the future u will thank yourself! Now that Crap the evaporator is held in with is another story……..we’ll fix that too…..

Like I said, the guys are kicking it on the mechanical side of this place.  We’ve got a delivery today, I’ll try and get some pics……..and the beat goes on…… Thanks for dropping by…..looks like I put L asleep waiting for me to get finishedThe guys are here early…Jared’s son is out of school today……where ELSE would he be!  Man, I remember the day………not long ago in fact……actually last month but who’s writing it down…….. Have a great holiday weekend……I’m headed out with Janie to Lake Panasafski while her brother does some wiring at the house….seat time….YES
