This a very special part but before that, the guys set me up with yet another coach ready to move the Q forward with a test drive before delivery……and yet again, I’ll probably say this @ every test drive…..find something cool but this coach holds great meaning to mebback in the 90′ s, CLASCO did the interior…..I know, I was in on parts of the project. The plan was to restore the coach in stages…mechanical came first then the interior.
One thing lead to another…..CLASCO and all of that early restoration concept lost its way and in early 2000, the coach surfaced again and back then I painted the coach. Dissappreaded I presume doing its thing up in New York when a new owner called me and wanted to pick up as steward of this coach!
Long story short here it is and here I am test driving a finished product over 20 years in the making! And once again I’m involved finishing the project……againI can’t take credit for the twin Yakama “Space Case” pod which I feel really set it off. The diamond plate bumper fills were added way back but after that long there wasn’t much to say for the polished finish…… The gold, bumpers and the entire lower rocker panel section was black bed lingered…….that stuff is harder than woodpecker lips AND can be touched up! The roof will need some love next year but man that paint has held togetherthis time, we added the new “Max Blow” dash AC systemto an old school Mac Dash…..motorized DIN radio with 7″ LCD screen…..the leather wrapped wheel still alive after 20 years and FiTech fuel injectionThis is the 4 position screen ….I could monitor barometric pressure real time but here I’m monitoring DC voltage, coolant temp, air/fuel ratio and vacuum. I have to admit after 20 years of Qjets causing all kinds of things these new generation, active, learning fuel injection systems really answer a slew of issues. I look at them as an adapter for our old design motors to run descent on this new style of cold fuel. Not just the Ethanol ….fuels today have been formulated for the hot running, high compression computer controlled fuel injection systems. A good analogy is diesel fuel must be pressurized then squeezed through an injector to ignite. Gasoline motors are beginning to do the same thing and the fuel is designed to work in that enviroment……..its not a matter of do I like carberatprs….the FUELS don’t mike our beloved Qjets!
Anyway, the dash AC froze me out, the FiTech system worked like a champ and I really feel this puppy is ready for a fun vacation……20 years in the making
So now for what this is and why its so coolThis is a late model rear wheel inner liner….we know its a late model because of the 2 eased areas on top for the wheels if the coach looses air pressureall early coach wheel liners are cracked because in full down position the tires hit this inner liner. These donor, perfect late model liners have a new homeon the new flat floor in Chris coach. And here they are, secured in and undercoated with rubberized undercoat.1Hey….nice floor! This is the first body suspended at its outer edge by gussetts to the onboard frame. That is a seriously flat floor! With the weight of the body taken off, the floor support can just support the floor! It works! Now we have to figure out how to do this without removing the floor! Lemme get back to ya on that………
I’d SAY yesterday was a good day and today could be special too……That’s what I like about living……tomorrow can always be better! Have a great day…..we will…….
