…………..Yes, these EV-4010 and 6010 water cooled Honda generators are getting harder to findSo the argument now is why am I putting a discontinued generator in a full restoration? We really didn’t know what we had until they were gone…….a water cooled Honda is something I have found to continue to be a reliable part of what I would call an up to date coach. They just work, knowledge and parts are available thru Pinellas Power Products and Paul Wolliver. Look him up, support is a key even IF something is a really good performer.
Yes, it runs at 3600 rpm with the On an running 1800 so its a bit higher pitch noise but it hardly skips a beat when you slap an AC unit on. Water cooled mammal, it will fit into a 26′ coach like a glove…..you 23ers have a little more trouble but it can be done.
It can but it does not need to slide out, you can but pretty much everything u need to get to was designed to be on the outside…..what a brilliant idea!
We’ve done many of these and have the install procedure down.We build First a 3/4″ plywood platform and undercoat it on all sides with a rubberized undercoat. Why wood? Wood is a good sound and heat insulator, it keeps the rising muffler heat checked and helps with inherent mechanical noise.
Then using “1 pound sheet goods” we line the compartment “quilting” is in place with hi heat glue and fender washers with screwsThe baseplate pattern for the generator was cut out as it was fitted so now the generator will be fitted to its new home and duty. Stay tuned tomorrow to see the dude in its hole……
I was trying to make a point the other day on Facebook and I think I soured the thread. For those of you who felt that way I apologize but here is the point I was making……. Modern are bags are made to have lateral (side to side) movement on one side only if they look like this as you can see, the right side has an external cone for the bag to not only roll up on as its compressedbut held at the inside of the bag it will allow this side to side movement but the other side will not allow those movement….its stationary……….This “Bob” that’s big ole bag will hold the back of the coach up but larger bags take less air to go up…..sounds awesome! But the light air makes response like an air pillow….kinda bouncy plus with 1 side of the bag not made for the side to side motion on both sides, there’s motion there this bag was not designed to. Now think about hanging a bag in there with BOTH side resisting lateral movement. Guys, we’re in America and we have choices…..do what you feel you need and ill support ya but until they start getting cracked up I’m running original air bagsthat has the 2 exterior cones. When, like most of you, finally need the change…….here is what replaced the BobsThear too are straight movement bags but with the 2 pieces of 3/8″ steel plates making a center stationary member the bags are not exposed to enough lateral motion to be an issue. Adding the benefit of being able to still drive with 2 rear wheels out of commission then also having a more stable ride with an independent 4 air bag suspension its a game changer.
If you’re going out on that thin limb driving a 45 year old machine on the open road……brother you need some backup ideas. 2 boxes, 54 pounds each it costs more than a “mono” bag system made up of 2 air bags and a couple of spacers……the quad bag IS more and gives you more options when something goes wrong…….I mean what COULD go wrong on these old things? Don’t ponder that too long, you’ll start to get worried……..!
Checking the bearings and brakes on the coach up top, we find these off shore bearingsJapan means it’s not a Temkin. The bearings we strongly recommend are not expensive but could create huge dollar issues if they fail…….out with those but the bakes have new spring kits, no cylinder leaks and good material on the riveted shoesWe DO have the bogy pins loose on the driver side and the shocks need renewing but hey…..that’s what bringing it back to the road means!
Ok, its a clear day to the afternoon so I need to stop this plunking……….see you tomorrow…..
