It’s raining this morning here at Ormond by the Sea, it,s actually relaxing having a light rain…..no beach but that’s not why we came. This trip is another shake down for Baby Blue. It’s an hour’s ride from the shop and what fun the run was. Delightghtfully, surprised John installed “Rosen visors” on this puppy. Used extensively in aircraft, no sun glasses needed, you look through the smoked lens visor to cut out glare which is a really big problem flying air aircraft and a pleasure driving on the road.
Driving 60mph, in the tunnel, 14.1afr, 179 water temp, oil pressure hi, trans temp @180, vacuum 15″, 2 fingers on the wheel blowing down the black top……now this is what it’s s like to drive a together GMC!
Sitting, a lawn chair in the garage, just chillin, a frothy beverage in hand, the exact cut stainless steel hood logo reflects to match the white texture coated roof.
What a relaxing day….nothin to do but sit in the garage, drink a beer and fixate on something that you may not ever notice…..nothin like it!….and the drive, I feel like a pilot…. Everything you need to know Is right in front of you, the 18″ “big boy” leather and chrome steering wheel and the open road ahead….life is good. Stopping at the rest area….you should stop as much as you can…..to impress others…..can’t help it….and to check the wheels for heat
If you have any bearing or brake issues the wheel will spike a temperature long before the wheel pops off or your brakes fail. The 2 front wheels will b the warmest followed by the center wheels with the 2 rears being the coolest. Before leaving Orlando, I always pop the engine cover to just look at the motor.
Oh yea baby…FiTech fuel injection sitting one of our roller cam 455 power plants..fresh transmission..new distributer…see.this is gonna be fun! This is the first diagnostic step on vehicles made in the 70’s. Tightn clamps, look for leaks, tighten maybe the exhaust manifold bolts…check belt tension….all of that is really important. Then drive cautiously until you feel everything feels ok before taking out
Our coach “JayGee” is pissed,..a strange motorhome taking Janie and I to the beach……”Hey, thats MY job!” Hang in there buddy, you can’t always be the one……And we need to know if Baby Blue is ready to go home. In a word “Come’n get it”. Baby Blue makes the grade….and I am having a blast driving it .
Still have the trip home but it’s pretty clear at this point Baby Blue is rarin ta go. Nancy, John…. Ill call ya this evening….if my phone will do it….phone problems lately ….. But I’d say rent that one way rental and plan picking the coach up tomorrow….
Breakfast calls, talk to ya later and the garage calls again while it rains…..a great Sunday
