“Mornin” as Willie walks past for a crack at the bathroom before breakfast. I have sooooo much to show you today and going to the GMC Sunshine Statesmen rally I have to bug out early so my morning WILL give you some cool stuff here but lemme go have breakfast too before we all strap in…. see ya in a little bit… hey… go take a shower and put the coffee on…
OK, breakfast is down and my energy is up! Got the “diesel” ready for the rally yesterday. Ready? Yes… ready. This will be the first distance testing run…. THE shakedown, the first of many. Now remember, the dash AC had to be fitted to the new design GM turbo-diesel AC compressor. The diesel has no “vacuum” so it has a pump to run stuff like BRAKES and of course the dash AC ducts but that’s a pretty important thing to get right! Had to be fitted to the original tranny into the original hole with as low of a cover as possible (we had to lift it 3/4″ only) .and yes, that’s the carpet the coach came in with…
Now this is one of an estimated 40 Explorer rebuilt coaches built up in the 90’s, they had buckets of money poured into them and they were very nice….. but as in everything, you have “unexpected results” doing something for the first time. Here’s a great example…. The front was fitted with a “buddy seat” so 3 people could enjoy the ride up front. Sounds awesome and it is! BUT…. to get the engine cover off to get to the motor…. the passenger seat was fitted with a quick release so those seats had to be lifted out of the way to get to the motor! Yeah, pretty stupid locking away a 40 year old power plant under the seat… Bubba’s gonna get that thing greasy! So I took it out and will not have thar lump in there to show the turbo-diesel motor this weekend There will be room to see the thing so we’ll see ya there…..
So, what are ya gonna see? yup… and this too so lets have a fun GMC club weekend….
Now… on to more shop fun….
JD… your craft is in the building .and next in the Q!
To get you guys up to speed on JD’s project. He picked up this really nice looking coach and on the way home was sideswiped by a gal … probably on a cell phone! It’s driver side tells that tale Scheduled next for paint, we have some time so JD is pulled inside for a looksee at the interior. We’re slated for some reasonably extensive interior restoration. It’s a Coachmen Royale built interior so there will need to be some different considerations from Willie & Nancy’s “Savoy Brown” project. We’ll get into the unique considerations as we go… right now something has to be done about the dash. The previous owner was a true enthusiast…. Not to mention the high dollar direct port sequential *&^%$ fuel injection system that was designed to go to the moon it had bout every gauge, switch, lever, doodad that every enthusiast would ever think he might want…. and got every one of them!
Pullinf down the lower dash closeout the journey begins……. and continues…. and finally falls off the dash on it’s own All of the plastic uprights had been broken and fixed then fix rigged and finally just rigged to stay on. The dash was resting on the steering column…. . with some parts maybe velcroed down under the dash cover! Oh and this pic is after the first rake out of wires…. I’ll do pics…..Guys watch this project carefully, if you pick up a coach that’s had “personal custom modifications” you may wanna take notes! Good thing JD is opting for one of these puppies ….. Stay tuned….
So Bill’s 23′ coach …. hasn’t told me his name yet…. yes, the coaches do that to me…. not for you? Anyway lemme show you some lighting things we’ve done. Remember this is to be a show machine so the floor lights are of course an LED stip Nice but gimme more… Here are all of the touch sensitive LED lighs on in the coach No but what is that earie red light over the windows? OH right…. lemme turn off the LED’s…. I can here Bill now…. “What the… I don’t want a red bordello”!!!! Well then… does blue do anything to ya? Ohhhhhh, you’re one of those “green guys” OK…. I gotch green…..
and while you’re askin you can have any of 256 colors and shads in solid, blinking, flashing, strobe, fade in any intensity! USING A REMOTE!! IT’S CRAZY!!!
NOW… you can show your lights at a show! So… lets see what more fun we’ll build into …. Hey Bill, How bout “Fandango”. OK… I christen it Fandango at least til she leaves here. So lemme introduce to you for the first time ever…. Fandango and keep following this project.. it’s coming together soon….
Is this enough….. Naaaaaaaa Hey… ever seen an original rear brake hose? How do ya know your lif is resting on 40 year old rubber? Here ya go… the “full mechanicals” project…. here is the original GM date tag and the rounded shoulder on the fitting where the accachment bolt proves it
Now remember, this is a good lookin coach previously belonging to a club enthusiast! Drums off we see more This is how the drum came off.. check out the end boot on the wheel cylinder So, how old are the shocks? That one is easy No matter what the mileage number is… these are too old… Sorry
OK Andy T. here will be your surgeon Take a last look kause the next time you see your baby nice looking it will be light gun metal metallic grey…
OK… the diesel is pointed toward the gate… I need to get the guys on focus and I’m off to the Christmas rally. Janies brother is staying at the house to feed the cat…. #1 has the key to the gate so I’ll be in my readyroom. Carry on Spoc… maybe I can post on my phone….. wish me luck on that one!!!.
