………… True we pride ourselves on our GMC and vintage RV projects but here’s something else all these steely eyed middle men can do…….going……..  Going
GONE………
……..this military spec older ambulance box from the 90 ‘s is in perfect condition and today very expensive to produce. The problem is the wheels are popping off that overloaded then worn out Ford van chassis
so sanding and prepping the aluminum box for paint it will be freshly painted white
………Then a new 2020 ambulance prep chassis will be slipped under the box and now THAT truck has its new mission……..go save lives! Here is this hero on his old steed
stay tuned to see where this good……
Another new GMC couplewith their wonderful new…….to them……78 Royale rear baththese folks endured my “So you wanna get a GMC 101 class then went out there and pulled in a whopper! A really good boned ,survivor” I did a quick round the block test drive and had a delightful time. Alote to work with, we have several mechanical review projects on some new arrivals but I really wanted to get some grease on the guys fingers and do the looker on this one right away…….
first is the “B’s&B’s” or bearings and brakes……..front Then back…….
On the front the previous owner fitted 80mm calipers on the front wheels. Remember we are looking at 45 years of good intentions needing to be sorted out. Brakes being 1 of the 3 DOT inspected, tested and certified, any modifications to this safety device if failure occures put liability completely on your shoulders. We will not modify any brakes from the original design! Our Teflon lined hoses are identical to original made with DOT approved machines…. Original calipers and hoses with Delco organic pads will go onto the front rotors.
On the rearno messing around in here. Riveted shoes worn to 50% means everyone in there have done well but some new love is in order. New hardware and adjuster sets, organic riveted shoes, NEW wheel cylinders, new Teflon lined brakes hoses and new Timken bearing and seal sets all around. Has new KYB shocks and if the pins and bushings check out all will be in order there.
I heard Jason on the motor doing a compression test so soon well see the state of affairs on this new adoption…….stay tuned.
So yeah, it looks like a good day afoot. 56 degrees this morning mean no long John bottoms for me…. I’ll give it a go!
Too dang cold yesterday, this morning another road test…….oh boy!.I’ll do pics……no go…..ahhhhh the good ole days! See ya tomorrow
