Vintage RV & Motorhome restorations - "The GMC Coop"

Thanks for the comments yesterday……one comment was i need an editor……

…….See that depends on how professional you want to sound AND how much time and money can you spend on a daily post like this.  Yes, I’d love to have more videos out Ann’s that takes a video editor……that gets involved but I can plunk here this morning while eating a microwave biscuit, having some tea pushing out this verbage.  It’s all the time I have…love to have an editor…..how bout YOU!  Hey, we all do what we can….. Maybe someday……..

The biggest a.c. screen I’ve ever installedI’ll need to reinforce the supports but with the ability to “mirror image” you cell phone on the screen.  No CD player, a new “mechless” unit has a 9″ screen.  Oh yeah, the “Mini-Mac” dash looks pretty sharp too!  More to do but it’s together……stay tuned.……..

Here’s something I must try and express how our work has progressed as these coaches age and need more and more.  After 30 years of supporting the GMC community we find more things as time goes on folks want to include in their project but also we find more and more issues we find needs to be addressed.

Timing on doing all of this work we find grows as we progress. Time taken is what it is.  We have not found short cuts to quality.  If that’s part of the stress we can’t bow to those pressures….  Bringing one of these back to the road involves so many issues…..i mean HOW long can you expect particle board to stay viable!  What’s the half life of plastic, upholstry materials and fiber covered panels?   All of that stuff is coming apart as we speak!

Quality, speed and cost……..pick 2 and we’re already not fast to do this stuff!

Also in the middle of updating our tracking systems… Have no fear….recaps will keep our costs in line…those involved know what im talking about…..trust me, all will work out fine……

We’ve lost on of out techs and a second valued worker took his tests for law enforcement….im very proud of his choice ….but it will effect our workflow…..are any of you out there wanna make a profession of working with these classic machine…..come on down!

With full restorations taking more work and more time…..if you want to get on the roads this summer……. We don’t sell coaches but we have several previously restored coaches looking for new homes.  Don’t buy a “core” and fill up you backyard with particle board remnants and spend years of your life building up one of these for the first time…..Henry Ford’s first car had bike tires!  You don’t want to learn on your restoration .     That’s what we know how to do…..not complicated but just a lite of work to consider!

Look at our “for sale” page on our site.  These and more coaches are here because they are that nice….not junk….we don’t do junk.  Times makes things come together, finding a coach already gone over and ready for the latest upgrades….we have some here…..call me.

These rust no short cut to quality and rushing quality never works.  “One and done” has nothing to do with these restorations.  These coaches needed constant maintenance even when they were new!  These no president for a machine to carry on 45 years doing its thing or better……everything works great….till it doesn’t.  When will these parts fail?  Prepare yourself and fix those things first then prove they work.  It’s such a huge part of our business.

There’s a reason there aren’t many if any other places that do this work.  A basic mechanical shop is not prepared to take a project to the level these coaches need.  Thank you for trusting in us to do our best…..we will continue to work this way…..we need your help too.

This 77 coach came in with no dash AC operational.  Can you see any problems?  Here it all is…. “Appendix” timer circuit taken out (obsolete)….new blower relay and wiring replaced and reconnectedmotor rewired…..NOW the dash AC blower will work…….45 years of rigged “good intentions” made this repair needed……so much of this in these coaches.

And yesterday I picked up 2 more new single aluminum tanks.  Comments were made @ the crossbeam we modify.  On the bottom of the tank you can see the added support and brackets built into the tankHang with us, quality and quality outcomes are what we work hard for.  It’s what you must have.these are 2 tanks to ship out, you guys waiting to get a tank ….theyre on the way…….thanks for your support and relax and let all this happen…..youll love it!

See ya tomorrow.

Editor, why bother most of us know what you mean! Forget the “Master of the Universe” with a red pencil ready to correct everything. Communication is the goal this is not an English or typing class website or test.
