Sport Billy

This is the “tailgate machine” to beat all!  Show up to the game loaded to party and the party will come to you!

The 1974 26′ GMC “party wagon” was the brain child of an LSU football fan who wanted to stand out in the crowd when he made the season games.

Our projects are inspired by our customers wants and desires.  I tell them “if you want it pink with purple polkadots, tell me how far apart and how big and you’ll have it– be sure you like pink & purple though!”  In this case, Kent had a real vision of what he wanted in a tailgate machine, right down to the Ford 4 process candy red.  We added our “raccoon” blackout window treatment and “Sport Billy” was born.

The coach started at our shop as a rough core, the previous owner had spread aircraft stripper over the entire coach and left it for 4 years— yuk!  .  The work was on Kevin’s shoulders to take the entire body down to the base SMC plastic and aluminum materials.    Kevin conned Josh into running the sander sort of like home Mark Twain’s fence got white washed!

Next, Kevin layed out the black primer, 2 different layers of candy translucent red then 5 coats of high solids clear borrowing a down draft paint booth.   Now we had something to work with.    Assembly of the exterior is a major part of the exterior refinish– lighting, body molding, trim, sealants, etc.

Sport Billy is more than just a pretty face, our roller can motor with our “Kryptonite” cam spec, low RPM high torque along with a Manny transmission and 3.55 diff made this machine a screamer.  Here is Kent’s motor running on the ground on our stand.

The interior was a special build, for party use only.  5 flat screen TV’s, satellite system, on air digital antenna, DVD/VHS player to watch those classic old games on video .  Kent’s dash was the new hot shot dash from Mac, a really nice addition
