Lets talk chrome…….. At one time in my life early 60″s model Morpar made me happy…..

Today, it would be cost prohibitive for all but the fat wallet group!  Why?  The plating market because of the EPA regulations and true nasty and dangerous byproducts ……. the small players have gone underground making big bucks on Harley parts……the advertised places you would find are in 2 categories:

Cheap chrome— That’s a 2 stage process being played with nickel then the chrome.  Problem with that is nickel does not bond the the steel of the bumper…. It looks great some even your “double nickel” still though the nickel does not stick the the steel!

You must first copper coach the metal….in soldering its like tinning the wire so the solder would stick.

2. So you must know the finish is a 3 layer chrome process…..copper, nickel and then chrome.  If it’s not it will peal off…..sorry but it can’t help it.  The nickel layer is sitting on top of the steel….water get in and rust happens.

With a 3 process chrome, copper bonding to the steel…..no water can get in…..it won’t rust.

Oh yeah and you KNOW 3 process chrome will cost more AND it’s difficult to find a business that does 3 process chrome.

Our chrome folks have a 1 year backlog for new customers!  Yes really…and the cost is what it is……..but this is what you getHere are 2 front and 2 rear bumper sections fresh from the 3 process platerand MAN have we been waiting for THESE for one of our big projects.  Actually, I have some bumpers these folks did for us over 5 years ago……ill show you some pics of it tomorrow.

So there are some other finishes we use on bumpers that look sharp but don’t ding the wallet quite so badly.  Come by tomorrow and I’ll show you that stuff.

Have a great Easter weekend……see ya tomorrow……..
