I Like Mac

David-dash-2 Mac likes me… he makes me look good  Dash pana 1  Actually, this is a dash of his I call the “Mac Daddy” well over 10 years ago.  If it were not for the efforts of Mac & Shirley McNeal over the past … well I met them when I first started in this craze… we are blessed to have someone of his talent making custom parts just for our GMC motorhome… well he does many other dashes for other vehicles but he first started with the GMC motorhome dash.  I just want to you check his site out before I go on… lets see if I can do this, go to:  www.custominstrumentpanels.com

For those of you on Facebook I feel I need to explain myself on a thread yesterday evening… Look, we have a really unusual, niche, specalty, nutty, obscure   you get the point unique industry…. GM never figured this coach would still be around.  Back then my Dad traded a car in before any suspension work needed to be done…. today we have parts that have no GM part number wearing out!

Any talented man willing to produce a really nice part for such an industry… well my hat’s off to them.  They need our support because it would be very easy for them to just say goodbye, there is no big profit picture at the volume levels parts must be produced everything will cost a bit.  But more than the price, sometimes you can’t get a custom made part at ANY price…. heck, I wish we could have a better selection of proper rims for your coach!

So all that said, someone .. and possibly rightly so…. was laying some negative vibs about a dash he was taking out, modifying or something in a coach he had purchased.  The PO (that’s previous owner) had installed some custom dash.. could have been one of Macs but the comment was of shoddy workmanship and in that it is assumed that bad effort would naturally be from the manufacturer or maybe the expectations of what is possible in a small industry such as ours did not equal to the reality of it… for whatever reason Mac was taking it on the chin a bit.  Being a complete personal friend and someone who appreciates the work he does I just felt it important to defend his honor a bit.  I did not mean to step on toes… you guys know by now sometimes I come across straight up.  Anyway, I can’t explain that particular issue but I just wanted you many lurkers to know Mac really does good work and you can trust his products.

Anyway, Mac makes us all look good.  Matter of fact it was one of Mac’s dashes I put in over 10 years ago that attracted a writer at BBC news who investigated many personalities in our community then published an article and showed that dash… take a read http://www.bbc.com/autos/story/20150127-forty-years-on-gmc-motorhome-remains-on-the-move .

Hey, we all “get by with a little help from our friends” as a really neat guy once said.  Mac is one of those guys… it may be the dash is question was hacket up by the installer…. thats one of the things that drived Mac crazy… here is the back of one of his manufactures… to some it may be sloppy but to me it’s awesoe  RC-Dash-23--2.  Anyway, I meant no malace to the poster just that I want to say it’s easier to smile than froun and I love everyone around me how helps out.

OK I hope it’s all good, I enjoy Facebook, especially Billy Massey’s site “Classic GMC Motorhome”.  If you haven’t checked it out please do.

I have some pics to process, I think I’ve blabbed enough for one day.  I’ll save all that for tomorrow.  See ya then.
