Vintage RV & Motorhome restorations - "The GMC Coop"

(An UPDATE BELOW…..) I finally did it…….

…… And end of an era……. Nothing left to do with it, may elementary ….left handed……desk had to gomy left handed librarian Mom made sure to promote our left handedness…….i mean have YOU even seen a left handed desk?  A hammer to lovingly tap the grooved joints is came apart cleanly…… We’ll have a fire and cremate this friend from the pastit was time and it felt right….thanks for the memories and support my first desk……..

An eary sight……all that stuff going on and the big house is quiet…..it was the weekend Eleganza even knocked out holding down her bed……..Not that were taking time to inventory all the take off parts still the stuff keeps coming off the restorations in favor of new thingswow, is that a firewall complete with the former VIN plate still attached…..a subframe assembly…….a complete wall section…. I mean what should I DO with all this stuff?a Transmode coach interior taken out to the foam insulation……and another Transmode never foamed from GMThe more coaches we see come in the more we are finding the 45 year old interior materials unable to be a part of a quality restoration.  I mean what’s the half life of all the materials that go into a completed original motorhomeI mean are there any 45 year old particle board cabinets in your house?  Humidity in the air will swell the base materials of your interior.  Plastics deteriorate, etc.  The more coaches that come in wanting again to be snappy the more we find things in need to not repair but replacementPlease consider when looking to restore one of these that the interior may need to be just taken out and replaced with new.

With the floor bowing from the weight of the body, many coaches need a new floor!

(UPDATE:)

I wanted to finish this thought……..

So yeah, the older our war horses get the more that’s needed to bring them back.  Not all of them are past the event horizon…. Here is an interior we are trimming out in our traditional way of wrapping the interior finishA new felt backed vinyl headliner knew door and drawer faces and textured skins covering the original bulkhead walls.  The particle board walls still structural the skins refinish the original interior.new flooring, upholstry and a MacDaddy dash and this interior will look great…..not all coaches are in the condition to have this far less expensive process than building all new cabinets and bulkhead like this…. Oops, lost that pic but you’ve caught what I’m pitching I hope……

So folks bring us their coaches to make them really nice, today my first question is what condition is the interior?  Water damage?  A bowed floor?  Any answered yes above is where we will suggest.  Brother the skin is pedaling off the onion! With a textured edge trim this wrap is close to done.  Stay tuned and look at your interior and figure is there enough left or should you be thinking all of it.

See ya tomorrow…….Tomorrow let’s talk about the mechanical stuff we feel you need to consider…..hey, they all need THAT stuff……
