Vintage RV & Motorhome restorations - "The GMC Coop"

You are here: Home / The Daily Pose / Good Morning…..this week starts off with a story of the last full measure of service……

December 20, 2021

Good Morning…..this week starts off with a story of the last full measure of service……

……… The weekend was filled with an intake that literally crossed the gate by its fingernails!

This intake is more of a rescue than a restoration.  The GMC community has to stand together when one of ours is threatened.

Story goes like this:  The coach owner is doing a family thing here in Florida and although we simply cannot disturb our line up Q…… On off time the guys are trying to keep everyone on the road so the decision was made to help out with overtime labor.  So you guys following us here with their project, this did not slow our progress.

The wait was a bit too long, on the way down from up north, filters “started a gloggin” ……. Diagnosing on the batphone, Jason went thru the intake crack scenario…….nope it’s was clogged filters plain and simple.

Finally looking at a short sprint to get to us just outside of Ocala…..Walmart, 3/8″ fuel hose, a boat tank and they brought the Queen in under her own power…..Note:  No tow trucks were called!  He just needed clean fuel.

Robert used power tools like Edward Scissorhands and this Morning we see the tanks on the ground and the issue became apparent.holy moldy batman, there the Toddler in there! The tank had been lined.  How do we know?  This was floating and scraped out of the tank.Zoom in on the yellow epoxy and rust.  Oh and check out that sender……with the cost of new senders along over $500 for a pair………this fuel delivery system is gone!

our aluminum tank supplier also did a weekender and is finishing up the tank today…….again no effect on our Q……heck, we have backordered for tanks….we paid extra for this tank to appear…….

Robert already with the Crossmember marked hopes to have to tank in by midnight….tonight….or tomorrow depending on when he sleeps.  I want you to know there’s an effort underway far above the norm.this support is replaced with a 1/4″ aluminum I beam throughout the tank replacing the Crossmember strength in both planes.  If that makes sense……go back maybe a week in the daily pose archives and you can see a tank.

So these are things that must not just replaced but upgraded to new technologies……..we can no longer run metal tanks…..even if they are lined, sorry.

And we have a new very important job for Abbey NormalJason is taking off Abbeys pinky finger she has been using to cut body side moldingand now with her wrist plate patternedguys, this could be a Tifton moment….. Hey, watch chis……. Stay tuned

Tomorrow is video shoot day but I hope to get Daily Pose up again by noon…..lets try.

See ya then……..
