GMC we have a danger within our community

The GMC community along with our classic coaches are enjoying a great deal of exposure as of late.  After the Civil War here in America, there were those that came in to exploit the south…. the name a “carpet bagger” mainly from the bags they carried that were eith made from or made to look like decorated carpets.  Today, opportunists are still out there… when something comes up that looks like it could be used to make money, these leaches come out of the woodwork.  I see our community as stewards of the GMC, it’s our watch and those that would try and exploit our coach must be watched for vigilantly and brought to light where the limelight will expose their plans.

Last year our community became the target for a group wanting to exploit our coach as a “dog on the set” for their down right stupid idea od a show.  They were cutting up our classic coaches making them into things like a barnyard, beat up living quarters, a schoolhouse and whatever looking to defame our classic coach as an object for some idea of a new “rat world” roving tribe.  And watching it unfold it actually got traction for a while.  Tipped off, the community saw it all for what it was and the second the production company backed away… with no money in tearing up our coaches that thread was neutralized.

This was not the first time opportunists have spied our GMC community as usable fodder.  For you older owners, how about Dinosources and that rigged 454 engine swap.  There was no engineering put into that “kit” and finally that fiasco was shown for what it was.  Today, AM General has worked from within our community through Manny and the new Hum V 6.5 GM turbo-diesel is a project born through and with the community.  It was put togetherfor a profit…. the world is about that… but more than that, it was designed as a labor of love through our community…. that’s the real thing AND IT WILL BE A WIN/WIN FOR ALL.

These 2 threads had to run their course to be found out…… Several of our community were burned with the Dinosourses mess including me….  The stupid show idea to make money also sucked in some in our community…. and you know why… because we always want to BELIEVE.  We love and appreciate our coaches and when someone comes along showing interest we believe they have the same objectives as we.  Supporting, exposing and promoting the use of the GMC motorhome as a viable alternative to what’s available today is our montra… but others see other opportunities and THAT’s what proves to tear us down.  We have at least one of those in our midst.

As Paul Harvey used to say, “a report can’t be called sensationalism if it’s true and documented”.  He also said ,”and now for page 2…” which is what I intend to expose the danger now we have from within.

Is this me jumping on my soap box?  You bet it is.   This could be a 2 or 3 day rant because I intend on covering every aspect of the issue and provide documentation that again, the GMC community is being used.

To those that seek exclusively GMC content… I understand and if getting in to this bored you I do understand although I see it sort of like the Presidential election where we all should get involved with the issues and get out and let our joices be heard.  You may need to know these things for the good of the community if nothing else.  So yes, I’m sorry but someone has to stand up and say “the Emperor is wearing no clothes”.

In making this statement of fact as to what is getting ready to be posted, I am not unsympathetic of people making bad decisions so I’m going to pause now and get the situation a last chance to get fixed.  I also have some paperwork I was asked to do for GMCMI but as soon as I’m done with that computer work… I will return to this subject.

If you have an idea as to what this is about fine, tell your friends in the community to stand by  because everyone will need to understand what is going on.

It may be the morning before I get back, again I want to give a benefit of the doubt as I always do.  We are here to enjoy our classic motorhomes and be with those that have like ideas…. and we all want to believe and that’s what makes stuff like this so alarming.

OK, lets move on for now…. thanks for the visit and things will get back to fun as soon as this is all over…

—————————————————————————–

In a way it’s too bad folks are coming to the GMC community, the next generation is rediscovering our coach.  Heck, we know what we had for decades, now with these new voices, good people are attracted but also those leaches as I described before are coming too.

A GMC Motorhome and for that matter any vintage RV that’s still alive is a great alternative to have to hope for credit to get in to something new.  You can get in at any level…. you can simply get it running and home where the fun can begin.  You can have knowledgeable mechanics get it running and then you can do what you want to or you can design your dream machine and have it built.  It all works.

Also generally speaking we all try and help eachother the best we can but then there is that guy that feels he is entitled…. it’s all about him and how much he can get out of any relation.

This is getting too long, let me go to another post… I’ll title is the same title but add “page 2” and lets keep this going….
