GMC Turbo Diesel Installation

Another entry in the 6.5 GM turbo diesel installation into a GMC motorhome…. the guys got the original 455 Olds motor out Diesel-install-o-6  And the diesel in the coach while I was gone Diesel-install-o-5  Not as yet connected but it’s in the hole.  Fit’s nice Diesel-install-o-4 and oh look…. can’t see the motor from the side Diesel-install-o-3 which means we are very close to a flat floor  Diesel-install-o-1  We can do a cut out as the original cover did where it’s needed… boys, I think we may just have that diesel under the floor!  Anyway, the motor is in the hole… we’re still working the diesel going in #41 waiting for it to come out of paint.  That one gets a 1 ton front suspension and a completely renewed front clip.  Stay tuned for that one but guys… it fits….

Wazit cost?  We’re looking at @ a 50 hour install, it’s $15,000 for the NEW.. not rebuilt 6.5 turbo diesel, $1550 for the tranny $1300.00 for the 273 diff. needed… remember your red line is 2200rpm on this motor and then there is the ever present shipping…  Not a cheaper alternative but man… it’s a drop in mechanically injected… new motor.  No electronics to fail, a mechanical fuel pump… so easy a terrorist group could run them…. JAN spec. means it will run after a neutron bomb.  Think about it, now after the bomb, those cockroaches will have something to drive other than Dodges with slant 6’s in em!

If you wanna get serious on over the road reliability I bet you could nail down the engine cover on this puppy!  Anyway, it’s not for every build but there are some that will get this.  Stay tuned for more information of this diesel motor swap….
