With the end goal of a reliable motorhome for the future, this coach will be renewed all the way to the floor boards! And even though being a 73, first year coach knowing our goal is to replace floor panels step 1 is to remove the interior. What better process to do that is to reverse HE’s assembly process…..I mean if you’re want to dive into the deep end of the pool…..remove the rear cap. The coach was designed with assembly in mind. With the coach body backed up to a dock level platform, the rear cap off.
the interior can be removed in the reverse order of its assembly. Digging in, the bedroom in the back comes out first.
The generator and l.p. compartments were built of wood in the 73 models. It was found out pretty quickly there needed to be a more sealed enclosure. Yesterday evening before closing down we have disassembled the interior down to taking apart the hall closet and everything south of that.
Our immediate goal is to remove the interior of this project before filling the next spot with another new project….it will go right here.
Stay tuned to see this interior out and meet our next project.
8 years ago I accomplished something right off my bucket list…..I’ll post a few pics when I sit down at the lap top but I always wanted to see a wild GMC version with a futuristic hot rod inspired ground effects look. I’ll be back and post a few pics here of the 23 and 26′ coaches we did this to.
and the 26′ Duramax coach
There were 3 coaches let out with this look, this coach still has it’s original drive train with all wheel air ride dropped and at ride height
and like a rare year for wine, I felt that doing this that it would be enough. Over the years, several folks have asked if I would ever reconstitute that 7 mold set to make more badass body shapes. Well, someone inquired enough and wants to partner with us to bring the “Duramax ground effects” back. Yesterday I dug out those molds for a looksee what has survived.
The most delicate nose mold is still in tact too!
Man, these bring back fun memories……. I can mark a GMC full ground effects mold set off my bucket list and now we’re going to allow more of them to be available. Hey, why not….. I burned down 4 custom low rider body shops to have these made….we SHOULD restore these molds and make more……stay tuned.
From there we have another coach finding a new home. Recently purchased our project is to bring this soldier back to full duty.
The motor is a time tunnel of how things were.
Someone did replace the oil fill elbow with one of Sick Patterson’s awesome Orange silicone boots but other than that it’s pretty much original……and it still works! The motor will be fitted with FiTech fuel injection to adapt the ole war horse to the currently available fuel supply which does not like our old carberators… Sorry but it’s the truth…..do today adapts our old drive trains to the “cold” fuel available today.
Ok, it’s getting daylight and I have a pile of trash to get out…… See ya tomorrow……..
