GMC Motorhome: No more sweating in “Rock the Alps”!

Living in Florida it’s important to be able to live in heat..you know, sweat balls dripping from your nose……..black T-shirts with salt stains at the end of the day and all that.  And being born in this fish bowl down here I’m pretty much at home having soggy shorts….hey but knowing everyone isn’t the same in fact I know a man in Rhode Island who will bug out at the sign of a warm day down here…….. I know folks who without a working AC in this humidity bowl really just can’t deal with not only the heat but the gagillion insects….hey, it’s part of the package.

“Rock the Alps” as it’s name says is cherished by a family from Switzerland and brother I bet you just like the witch of the west they would not do well in the Florida heat.  A beautiful coach but without a working generator it’s more of a metallic cannoli  During a test drive early this monch Janie & I found their brave Ole Troll would not do it’s thing anymore.

Lets talk about that a minute….if you have a good running original Onan “Power Drawer” good….they really have been great generator, very serviceable and all that but there comes a day when we all find we just can’t do the work we used to and in the case of a generator it really causes problems in an otherwise great vacation plan.

Janie & I opened the windows and in that it wasn’t raining (at the time we drove) a little sweating during the drive was OK.  Getting to the park after a 2 hour sweatfest you betcha I fired up those twin Pinguins and cooled down for the weekend.

Look, you need a reliable generator and when that Onan says I’m outa here, unless you live in Canada you must be in the market for another generator for your GMC.  For now decades we have installed the now discontinued Honda EV-4010 (4000 watt) and the EV-6010 (6000 watts) water cooled generators.  Yes, they are no longer produced but just like the reliable and serviceable Onan Power Drawer, these water cooled (mammal) generators are equally serviceable and reliable as the Ole Troll.  The thing is it’s newer, newer technology and 40 year old newer parts and manufacture.  I feel this is the key….it needs to be reliable but also serviceable.  A new Onan can be called both of those as well but right now…with the technical and parts support for these Hondas through Pinellas Power Products and Paul W. , the owner, I feel we have a more reliable package at least for now.

So after the sweat session that was a weekend trip, “Rock the Alps” has it’s new power plant to hook up to it’s twin roof mounted snow blowers and sweating in THIS coach will be something of the past!    We’ll be moving the 2 ga. red power wire but other than that this Honda is in and happy.  Note it’s in the 26′ compartment WITH a stainless steel TZE Plus slide battery tray and @ (countm) 6 volt golf cart batteries all hugging eachother in there.

I love these generator and if you would like one, we are scouring the country buying them then having Pinellas go through them replacing key components.  We can usually offer these generators for $3500 reconditioned, if you are interested give us a call and get on the list.  Andy and family will be coming to the US next month so we were fortunate to have a refurbished Honda available.

Now guys, this next paint project we’re starting to crank up will be a serious hoot!  It’s something I’ve always wanted to do and now with the help to get it done…………one of our Co-op friends has proposed a paint scheme……iconic to our classic machine.  YES, we are going to do a “tribute” paint job of this    The top secret EM-50, Urban Assault Vehicle of “Stripes” fame.  Holy crap is this going to be fun!  I want to go a few “transformer” features of this machine too.  OK, a little too much maybe but maybe not!  If this is what we’re doing, why not!…we’ll see.  Stay tuned, we have a little mechanical work before the exterior begins…….

The next coach to squirt out from our process will be Texas Tux.  The interior is really coming together now…here you can see the plank flooring with carpet up front.  The new big ole MacDaddy dash and the snow blower dash AC

This coach will be the first out with out new textured wall process    Stay tuned because when this puppy comes alive the #3 dash AC project will trim out and be on the delivery runway.  Yes sir, the production is picking up!

And to the production picking up comment…..here are 4 FiTech fuel injection systems already in houseslated for installAll purchased thru Summit…….you want them to stand behind a purchase like that plus being the lowest price, we have the customer order in the FiTech system.  The sale will be in their name and like I said with Summit’s buying power your purchase has their considerable backing.  If you would like to purchase the parts we use, give us a call…..we will Email you all of the parts/pieces you need to purchase from them.  It’s the best way…….

Ole Ralph, my Suzuki, is the parts runner….so how DO you carry 12′ sticks of trim?  Hey, I don’t need no stinkn roof rack!  A couple of straps thru the doors and we’re off.  Hey, it’s got a great air conditioner and radio….that’s all I need…….

So yeah, it’s another great day in the neighborhood…..can’t wait to see what the guys pop out doing today.  I think the refinished textured overhead cabinets for Texas Tux will come out of the skunkworks today…stay tuned and I know there will be more cool stuff to so we’ll see ya tomorrow…..and thanks for dropping by
