I’m trying to not have Ruby’s dash own the pose but here lately so many things are happening… I hope this isn’t boring for you.
Not directed as much directly on Ruby other than trimming out the firewall container Time today… while watching for the UPS guy is being spent bringing dash AC project 3 up to speed.
I would think many of you will be interested in this one. #3 coach was previously owned by a real GMC community participant and enthusiast and over the years this coach had been lavished with hours of personal attention. Every dingleball and doodad that had ever been discussed… this coach had! I mean look again at the dash before I dove in….. there’s every kind of thing to play with there! I mean an in dash TV before flat screen!!! I think Chris Craft would be at home there! But now we have to make sense of all that. It’s not that the PO was sloppy OR messy but after years even decades of adding, connecting in, rewiring and whathave you…. here is what good intentions create
.To the PO’s credit, this was a hi dollar Delco PGS map system… to make that work in a GMC was a killer!
but the pic above shows the mess it took to wire it in.
My first project here is to remove the Mac Daddy dash base….. Here that is which exposes the decades of wiring fun the PO had (BTW, that’s previous owner)
Hey.. a closer look could be called art to some folks
A nice job of mixing colors…… Yikes….. THIS is the pile I need to make sense of…… When I say sort it out I mean take out everything down to the original harness. After a days fun, here is that root mean in this area first
And look at the bottom of the last pic. The PO wanted more heat so digging in I found an aux. heater core down under the wires…. who knew! Now I have the wire wad to the right of this pic in the glove box
Wanna a closer pic…. remember, all this has to go down to the original fuse block… check it out, there are 2 other fuse blocks added that have to go away
all that has to go next. Then the wire wad under the steering column is next
THEN we move outside under the hood!
Oh Lord, be with me! Stay tuned……..
I’m not showing all of this in criticizing the PO’s work…. no, you must understand all that was put in with love…… This frustration object was put together with the best intentions…. but usually U will find this is a usual outcome. It’s just human nature………… Hey, lets rig in that new doodad and see how it looks……. Hey, it works! And looks cool……. OK, I’l leave it rigged in until I get home…….. It still works and it’s still rigged… so do that 20 or more GMC rallies………and the rest is left for the next owner has to maintain this???? You can’t….. you can try to rig it more when something stops working but the real thing is and what you must have if you are to rely on things not going badly….. is to take it all out and start again… right!
I mean do you want this……
or maybe this
So you next generation of GMC enthusiasts need to understand the past 30 years may have added a bit more “enthusiasm” than you realize ! If this sounds like your coach……… you need to do something like what I’m doing on these 3 coaches….. YOU need to know what all that wiring does to rely upon it…. sorry…
So I gues yeah… if this dash stuff is boring to you I’ve not given you anything today….. sorry.
The badass Ford pickup finally went home yesterday
and Lous tranny goes in today with a new hi volume oil pump, new oil pan gasket and more
and much more….. a clear, cool day…. gonna be a good one….. hope yours is too… see ya tomorrow…..
Me bad!!!! I know i have hooked up some things under the dash with the intention of going back to finish it off right and it seems to work as is so let it be. Still have some switches from the PO that I don’t know what they do if anything or ever. So the PO’s work plus mine and now i’m thinking of selling the coach to let another take over. You nailed it Jim!!!!
