GMC Motorhome, making that “silk purse”

If you wanted to do an exterior refinish, you would not choose… normally,,, a 40 year old vehicle the size of 2 elephants stuck together made of different materials that flexes as it goes down the road.  It really takes attention to detail and sometimes the outcome looks much better than you thought it could.

Let me show you this first, then we’ll get into how we make a straight line on those 2 elephants.

You may know by now, we have expanded our services a bit to maintaining and refurbishing limousines…. like this one  Hum-V-bondo-3  How bout a stretch Hum V….. pretty cool but man, you just won’t believe how it was made to look that way…. That’s not metal under that slick white paint job  Hum-V-bondo-5It’s a sculpted layer of bondo.  Looks great done but under that façade is now rust Hum-V-bondo-4  The more Ray digs, the more bondo and rust he finds Hum-V-bondo-1  Like I said, you would not believe how some things are made.  Many ways to do something….  hey, we’ll fix it….

Having a new, larger facility offers us opportunity to do quality work ending up with a REALLY good finish.

Lets talk about paint schemes any laying out stripes and designs…. one problem has always been lay out of straight lines….. especially around the 3d front corners of our coach.  Man, it’s always had to be a visual thing and as you know everyones eye sees things differently.

To lay out a straight line on the sides of our coach is such a critical thing it takes us hours to get that look right and even then hey… we live in a crooked world!

With a darkened paint booth, we now use a laser levelling system to lay out our stripes  Cal-laser-9  First we set a baseline to the original body lines of the coach Cal-laser-5   Now extend the laser around that front corner to make the line level on the original body line  Cal-laser-6 Lemme turn off the lights so you can see this line better Cal-laser-7  NOW, lets set up that wrap around layout Cal-laser-10  Cal, your black “raccoon” window wrap is laid out…  Stay tuned for more laser layout on this project…
