After introducing our transmission program with Monster Transmissions the right gears do nothing without something to turn it……. after many years of putting motors together with our combination I feel we have a strong motor for the GMC. First, the machine shop is the key to a good motor……..this is NO “production” motor……..over at the machine shop last week, the next 455 is ready for our builder Drew Koba to assemble the motor with the attention to detail we need. He picks up a goodie box with all of our special parts that go into our motors Balanced, you can see the metal added to the crank to balance it out. Some motor people say it’s not needed to balance a motor set for low RPM……I can’t disagree with that more! A hi torque, low RPM motor will beat itself apart if it’s not balance. If you are looking for a machinist to do your work, ask him if he would balance the rotating assembly on your motor….if he says it’s not needed, thank him for his time and move on. The block and main bearings are also line bored Another thing that production builders just don’t have time to do. Again, low RPM torque will tear up a bottom end. The heads have all new valves and exhaust seats cut in. Olds motors didn’t come with separate valve seats……after 40 years of extreme heat cycles it’s a good thing to offer better valve seating The valve train is all roller with adjustments in the valves that were never in the original Olds motors. We don’t WANT an original built Olds motor…we need much better.
Which brings up a talk I watched on C-Span yesterday. Not a huge fan of the music he does but as far as internet philosophy, Jaron Lanier I feel has a real insight on how social networking is corrupting humanity. You’ve heard it takes 10 good comments to offset one bad one……..we smile and say yea but did you really ever relate that to how folks act on social networking? Negative crap really gets people going on Facebook, Twitter, etc. They will let go of a string of nastiness without thinking…….. and we as social people pick up on that and drill it home. Scandals, bad press heck not only on social networks but in the press too. The song “Dirty Laundry” speaks to that.
The internet was much better 10 years ago without all these hackers, Trolls, Phishers, etc. have made us all participants in this trend. Jaron calls for everyone to delete all your social network accounts….I don’t know if I want to go that far…….the internet is the only way to markets such a small, spread out market as the GMC motorhome but we could sure do without all the naysayers like trolls…….. do you know what real “TROLL” is? You see them every day on Facebook……..someone says something innocent and maybe a little silly and someone comes back with a put down. Or they use the good nature of others and prey on it taking things that are not theirs. In fact I have several trolls on me right now. Is it truly things going wrong or are they just liking the fact they can crush some many good deeds with just 1 crass thing? That’s where the1/10 ratio taints our social network efforts. It’s true……..all the stuff you do that’s positive can have a shadow thrown over it by just one naysayer……. and that ends up the only thing people talk about.
I hate using negative words…when I get on a rant it’s because “I’m pissed off and just take it anymore”….sound familiar? That was a long time ago and in another world but it still holds true. You work so hard to do good things for folks and it’s erased by some freak! You Mom never said this place was fair…and it’s not. People lie, this misrepresent, they take what’s not theirs and mark it all down as consumerism. NO, the customer is not always right…in fact many times they just want to see what they can steal from you! “Buyer Beware” sucks. Consumerism breeds cheating.
I got out of working on limousines…the owners cry and whine about getting work done to their commercial vehicles. It has to be fixed to make money but they squeeze the mechanics unfairly. It’s a terrible pit of a business…I hope I never see another one. Some industries turn that way and I sure hope as the GMC community attracts new blood that they are noth blood suckers. The next generation of owners has more trolls in their numbers….they want everything for nothing and hide behind consumerism doing it.
How do you fight those few? Unfortunately you have to be mean back…it’s your only hope. This industry is not a furniture store where they offer free financing for 10 years….what a racket! You KNOW you are paying for that “O interest” car loan somewhere! Free shipping? FREE is another 4 letter word that should be banned. NOTHING is free! Capitalism says do unto them because they would do it to you…..isn’t that a terrible motto?
We are here doing our best for anyone who walks in the door, so what is the customers plan? Get whatever they can any way they can…..I hope I’m not talking to you…if I am get the hell away from me because I will treat you as you treat me! I have no time for such things…we’re working harder than we can for our customers. You want that come see us…you want to take from me…….. good luck because I’m no chump anymore!
WOW…where did all that come from? I’m just tired of having to deal with all that. It’s not enough doing a good days work…you have to put up with the thieves. 99% of our customers are great…when you come in to check us out…I check you out just as much! I will not get involved with someone who lays out iron clad demends…I cannot do my best under someones thumb..you couldn’t either. So hey, it’s all OK, I’m good it’s just my way here…and I’ve wanred you this is my stress outlet so there it is.
This week is a serious work week, after coming off such a holiday with such a work load as we have please do not call me this week wanting to talk about unimportant stuff…if you have troubles I want to help but gas prices….not so much. It’s 8am and I need to get to work…don’t worry bout me but if you see one of my trolls pop his head up how bout wack-mole him back for me……see ya tomorrow.
