GMC Motorhome, 455 motor run in……. close

Here is is before 8am and there’s 237 of you already breathing on the screen… good morning, I took a few minutes to process pics from yesterday.  It was a fun day.. and busy, lemme show you what went on:

The dat started before dawn checking out my assets for the day…. motor-run-stand-15  remanufactured carb., new distributer, plug wires, oil adapter, exh. gaskets. motor-run-stand-14 The motor on the stand, intake ready to clean up and install and the run in stand exhaust headers I’ll need to restore themselves to use    I need to make them so, wire the stand and get the motor all hooked up for Drew’s 7pm arrival to try and get this run in going. motor-run-stand-13  1 muffler missing and man what rust… sure hope they are still useable!  Peter found in a pile of the scrap a trashed Y pipe with some still alive mufflers motor-run-stand-12  Using our 3 wheel transpo he brought it over from the old shop so we could do something about the exhaust.  I was on the electric rat scooter in front of him.  Hey, it’s a LONG 100 yards back and forth when you have to do it a bunch!

So motor in, stand wires and exhaust on….. 7pm and Drew shows up after his day job to get the intake back down   Ron-run-in-22  Job done motor-run-stand-11  His torque sequence cheat sheet covering the top of the intake.  And then the motor was together  .

Ron-run-in-19  During the day, I hung an alternator for belt tension to turn the water pump.  Heck, 3 wires and a resister.. I wires the alternator… what the heck…  Ron-run-in-21  Got the cooling system plumbed, Drew stabbed the dist. and installed the plug wires.  Got the vacuum, water and oil connected… all mechanical gauges.

Lemme give a little well deserved advertising about one parts supplier that’s still “Made in America”.  We install a new flywheel of course

Ron-run-in-23 so check out the parts label  Ron-run-in-24  It’s not made in China or even Mexico or even France !!!… it was made here …. I didn’t know that… so you will see Pioneer parts in our motors and I would suggest you also support “Made in America”.

So at the end of the day I put one of my work shirts over the motor  Ron-run-in-17 so I mean WHY do we all do that.. a fresh motor ready to start and we cover it with a blanket.  Is it gonna get cold????  Does it need asecurity blanket because it’s not been started yet!!!!  I don’t know but there it is…. We need to let the Ultragret RTV set up… I need to add coolant and get a can od fuel to run it up on but ut should start this morning.  Ron-run-in-20.  Stay tuned for more…..
