Back in the saddle again………

So again……… back at the shop now for a couple of days…..man it’s hot out there! At least in the big house there’s shade, moving wire and fans…… I’m on my coach in the weeds with the 4 rear wheel bears and brakes. I call that the “B’s&B’s”. My coach has been sitting thru COVID so everything needs that big going thru.

In hover mode, shoes off I’m back getting greasy…. Step one is take it out, xlean the brake plates up with brake cleaner spray……..put an opened flat cardboard box to keep your floor clean

I have the new wheel cylinders in, brake backing plates cléan. Note…….. I know you did, I’ve had original air bags on JayGee up to this point. Why? Yeah I’m the guy yelling so much about the Quad bag system…..wazip right? Truth is I haven’t gone far for a long time, I’m not going out without the options but around Florida, I’d much rather keep the original bags until you have the need and the safety option the Quad bag system offers. Likewise, the other bag systems out there….those bags don’t have the big cone on each end to allow the bag to “roll” side to side as the tandem suspension presents lateral pressures on the arm. Held at the centerpost, the bag rolls without putting a tear force on the aftermarket cremped edges. Yeah… I know….whatever, when you need a new air bag, weather cracks or a nagging leak……watch as I put my quad bag system on now……hey, I’m putting this thing together to hit the road.

The next step is to pull the rear seals on the hubs and clean up the bearing for inspection

we find most every rear wheel we open up gets new wheel bearings…..why? Here’s a bearing pulled from a drum and a new one…. Zoom in on the opening of the cylinders and the edges of the cages

The bearing on the left shows metal turned up where the cylinders roll..the other edge of the cages are sharp…..thats wear. The cylinders are not pitted or blue……many mechanics would repack and use that bearing. The weight and extreme heat cycles our coaches perpetrate on the bearing, we see bearing wear that may not be noted. Ok so now you know.

We use only Tempkin bears and races …..those are the oranges boxes in the paper bag. Why? I’m not smart enough to definitively answer that other than “use these”

inner bearing/race set……45set

Outer bearing…….15103S

Outer race……15243

Seal…..8974S

I’m waiting for the 4 45set bearing to come in tomorrow, I’ll clean out the hubs, swap the races, pack my new bearings ……install the rear bearing ANF seal. Stay tuned for that

We should have a frame project update…….the bogies are ready with new pins and bushings. Dennis has the upper and lower A arms in, new adjusters with offset bushings to the the suspension more caster adjustment

If any of you Ranch Hands are up against some of this work, give me a call…..until we get a tech video on this process I’ll talk ya thru it.

Btw, we’ve broken 300+ ranch hands so really…..thanks guys. We actually posted 3 video this week with another video on roof AC systems ready to post…..hey and it all for and because of you guys…….thank you.

Tomorrow I thought I’d post some pics of a really nice coach here for sale….heres one to wet your whistle

Alright, thanks for dropping by and your support, without sounding too mushy……thanks for helping keep the dream alive……..

Yeah…. I’ve not been on the road in many years but if I was not running a quad bag system I would keep with the original bags. They will move is 3 planes…..did a video on it. Hey, I’ll get there wjen I save up enough aluminum cans……thought I would keep my coach reliable modestly…..stay tuned.
