Yes, the Florida based GMC Club (Sunshine Statesmen) have just come off a rally like few others, they all met at the Orlando Speedway 1/4 mile track for a rally like no other With the tent up on the fence at the finish line (actually tied the tent to the fence), everyone attending got a first hand look at what the fuss was all about. 18 coaches came and made for a great rally. The rally started early waiting at the gate for the 6PM opening along with the other racers. Yes, and I meant “ALONG with the other racers” because Friday night was “run what ya brung night” . Pat Smith and his 77 rear bath Royale lined up with “Larry” for a blistering run . Read’em and weep boys After a quick .277 hole shot, Larry never looked back. Jon Lettington rode with me to hit a 23.119 at 57.82 MPH– Ok, so Garletts doesn’t have to worry but like the gal said giving me the ticket, hey, thats not bad for a motorhome! I wanted to do a big burn out but I was at a 45 degree angle in the water so I couldn’t get straightened out before the line for the burnout, bummer. The folks in the stands gave us a standing send off and I blew past the camera before the flash hit me, all Janie could get was my dust and Pat following . Hey, we were out there for fun and man did we have that! Thanks Pat and thanks to all for all the fun. Guess now that I have a time I can go back for some bracket racing — hey, there were a couple of cars there I could hang with, never mind that 2 of them blew their motor on the start line! I wondered what it would feel like to run a 1/4 mile race, now I know. So Steve F. , head on over to Pomona next time and give her a go, you’ve got your target now.
The rest of the rally was also a hoot, with 18 coaches there, we had plenty of company, plenty of food and plenty of fun. I’ll simply put up pics for ya, you’ve probably heard enough of my verbiage. Listen, you other clubs out there need to do something like this, we had a blast!
Hey, we can’t forget that Jon Lettington, the club barber, set up shop on the fence for a cutting session. We had to give Jof a lolly pop after his cut be he still had a great time Cheers to all who came, thanks for the support:
SS board meeting. Celebration with the Capt after the run. Hail to the cooks Hail to the eaters and Hail to all who came, even Hail to the possom who hung out in the trash can and yes eve to the “Pre Rally” outside the gate waiting to get in .
