Look, smart folks are attracted to the GMC not just the style but also the engineering that went into the design……… That’s accepted but sometimes the problem arises that the smart person may automatically thing “I’ve got this”. I’ve built space crafts and super computers……restoring this old thing will be cake!
To those that feel this way.” You no nothing about this vehicle at all!”. You have something not working, you do not know the diagnostic tree for that circuit so what do you do? You take the entire motorhome apart figuring whatever the probleem it’s probably wired wrong……..throw the baby out with the bath water and then you have no idea where to get another baby or how to turn on the water again!
This only leads to frustration and bad feeling and why? Because you took it all apart without knowing what you were doing and now you’re blaming everyone but you because it won’t work after you took it all apart.
What’s now needed is someone who knows the coach and what those circuits do. You don’t want to go through what there which its looking like your having trouble there, Henry Ford’s first car had bicycle tires! You don’t want that…..for times sake, got the cost of doing things once right, I will be willing to honestly help you even though you took a coach I was proud of building over 20 years ago and you destroyed and took it apart. Many people would simply walk away and you get what you deserve…….i don’t do that. I want that coach to ‘ve proud again but you will have to fund that…..YOU took it apart.
Ok and for the rest of all of you wondering what planet I got stranded on…… The psychology of this can get pretty deep when it comes to getting expectations and realities together. It CAN happen but you must understand what can ‘ve done and what that takes.
We’re blessed right now with 32 projects in process right now with several others waiting in the wings. Yes, the next generation of RV enthusiasts like these things and with new entry level Motorhomes starting over $100,000…… Have the faith and understanding restoring a GMC is what I call “the cheapest toy in the box”. I mean if you want a nice machine that’s comfortable, reliable and impressive…..brother the GMC is it!
Here’s a story of a proud coach coming back into the ffold…….”The Wayward Son”I have known and worked with this coach for at LEAST 30 years. A Sunshine Statesmen GMC club member for many years….. rally hosts and extreme lovers of their GMC.
And now a new steward has taken responsibility of this proud survivor that will again rule the road as beforenot coming to attention but the guys watch as the war horse touches the ground and appreciates what’s under the faded paint and patches of mold.
The Wayword Son” gave me his best side saying “good to see see ya again…..im still in here”….see if you can hear him…..and yes, he is a male!Still snappy and he wants to go again. But 12 year old dare codes on the tires means there will be a once around the world mechanical review!
The heart is still alive, on infused boat fuel tank go juice he woke up and in a minute of running he idled smooth like the real man he isStill sporting an Olds blue jumpsuit, a silicone Stringfield oil fill elbow said to me this power plant got what it needed when it needed it and there was much pride infused into this motor…..fan clutch was gone…….hey but all 8 fire and the headers put the noise out back…….Its Alive!
If your a wanna be GMC owner THIS is the coach you want to find! I really think with a good buff the paint will come back too!and to all that Crap I started this post with……..guys THIS is what it should be about. These are proud machines deserving what it takes to bring them back. If you accept being a steward about caring on these classics, let me say good on ya and do it right, seek others who appreciate these unique machines and always do all you can to support your coach……..
Happy Thanksgiving to all of ya. See ya later
